Favorite healthy breakfast?

I find it's easy to get in a rut with breakfast food, so I thought we could share our favorite healthy choices.

My absolute favorite is a spinach, blueberry, Greek yogurt smoothie with a slice of whole grain toast with avocado on it. I could eat it almost every day. Best thing is my 2 1/2 year old loves it too, so we can split a smoothly and half an avocado.

Re: Favorite healthy breakfast?

  • I like making a little parfait with Greek yogurt and a little bit of granola and either blueberries, blackberries, or raspberries. Yum!
  • Loading the player...
  • Yogurt with almond granola & an apple or banana :)
  • I was a Figure fitness competitor so a healthy breakfast to me has to consume protein... And I have a few favorites :) egg white omelette with green chili and low fat motazarella, baked oatmeal or Ezekiel French toast with home made turkey sausage.

I'm jealous you can eat a smoothie as a meal! I love them but I think I need solids. Whenever I make a smoothie with the intention of it being a meal, I always feel hungrier after. :(

I usually like greek yogurt and fruit with some nuts, or oatmeal with walnuts and fruit.

  • Toast with turkey bacon, mashed avocado, sea salt and a side of fresh grapefruit. Mmmmmm

Or steel cut oatmeal with dried cherries, cinnamon and almonds

  • Today's breakfast is pretty great. Eggs cooks with mushrooms, a slice of bacon, half a grapefruit, and a glass of orange juice. Really trying to step up the protein and eating "real" foods.

Also love smoothies with greek yogurt, milk and mixed berries, and have been enjoying oatmeal (the slower cooking kind) with milk, bananas, walnuts, and brown sugar.

  • This weekend has been nice for breakfasts... egg scramble with spinach, onion, and grass fed sausage, and a clementine on the side :) and sometimes a little hot sauce lol
  • I eat basically the same thing every morning: scrambled eggs with some sort of vegetable thrown in (lately green/red peppers and diced onion). It's a special day when there's bacon or avocado on the side :)

I used to have a banana peanut butter smoothie every morning, but I have thrown it up so many times this pregnancy that I an no longer able to stomach it. We have a lot of eggs since we have chickens, and left over quiche is awesome, this morning we had chocolate crepes with berries and maple syrup. My son then had the audacity to ask for dessert after finishing his plate....
  • DD and I eat a green smoothie every morning for breakfast (Greek yogurt, banana, spinach or kale, at least one other fruit like berries/peaches/mangos, almond milk, and ground flax). I usually eat whatever else she is eating as well (half of a bagel with cream cheese or sliced avocado, oatmeal with cinnamon, whole grain waffle with peanut butter, scrambled eggs). It's just easier to make one thing for both of us!

  • OK I was all ready to chime in but you guys are much healthier than me!  My fave is oatmeal with a tbsp of peanut butter, raisins, apples, and cinnamon.  It keeps me full for a long time.  Or I have greek yogurt with Kashi Go Lean Crunch in it.

  • I have no time in the morning so I need something quick or that can be packaged the night before. My go-to's:

-yogurt w/berries and a little granola
    -cheerios with banana slices
-english muffin with peanut butter or jam

If I do have time to cook, I usually don't vary it that much anyway, I may just toast the english muffin in the oven and put a slice of tomato and cheese on it and melt it. I also love bagels and cream cheese but now that I'm not constantly sick anymore I try not to eat them as they're calorie suckers.
  • Cottage cheese and fruit is my go to!
  • Damn, you guys are making me wish I had the stuff to make breakfasts like these!  Maybe after we move out Friday and I can have my own shit in the fridge without it getting eaten by someone else... :P

  • Oh I like that idea! We got a ninja blender for Christmas so we've been making a ton of smoothies. I usually do a berry smoothie with protein powder, silk almond milk or Greek yogurt and some baby spinach leaves. I also LOVE pineapple and banana in my smoothies.

    I need more recipes though.

  • Oh and on the not-so-healthy side. Mixes berry granola waffles are AMAZING.

  • My 'healthy' breakfast is peanut butter cap'n crunch, a banana, and a big glass of OJ...

Love those! They are also delicious with 1Tbsp. of coconut flour mixed in and then topped with some almond butter.

  • Not sure how healthy it is, but I've been hooked on a toasted bagel w cream cheese, capers, and tomato. So yummy. - This has been almost every day! :) Sometimes a slice of ham on it, too.

  • Muffin tin eggs. Cooked bacon (not crispy) around the edge, pour scrambled eggs + whites + spinach and peppers with almond milk scrambled- into the cups, bake. I keep them in the fridge and warm them up with a little cheese on top in the mornings when i am starving and don't feel like cooking =)

That, or just bacon and fruit.

  • Vanilla Greek yogurt with smashed fresh raspberries, granola, and lightly salted almonds mixed in.
  • Chocolate meal replacement shake with a spoonful of peanut butter. Mmmmm.
  • My new favorite, found it in cooking light magazine & made it a few days ago:
In the slow cooker on low for 3 hours, water, apple cider, steel cut oats, 10 grain cereal, cinnamon, nuts chopped & a bag of blueberries! No need for sweetener or anything & it keeps you full for a long time!

I have made smoothies with kale in the past and I would say it depends on the quality of your blender and how much you put in. Definitely can't put as much kale as you can spinach before tasting it. Also, my blender didn't always get every chunk of kale blended as well as the spinach. I have since bought a new blender (a ninja!) and have not tried it with the high quality one, but I think it would work better judging by the job it does on other things.

  • PB&J on toasted Ezekiel bread + side of yogurt.
Scrambled eggs with sauteed veggies cooked into them.
Cinnamon Harvest Kashi + almond milk + side of fresh fruit.
Plain instant oatmeal cooked with apple cider as the fluid, mix in chopped microwaved apple + cinnamon.
I eat this practically every day except with soy milk!

  • Green smoothie (greek yogurt, and/or almond milk, spinach or kale, and whatever fruit I have around)
Greek yogurt parfait w/fruit and kashi go lean crunch (I like kashi instead of granola)
I like to make my own yogurt since so many greek yogurt brands are just thickened w/corn starch & added protein instead of strained. I was irrationally annoyed by that- scam! Ha
Oatmeal w/apples, cinnamon, a little brown sugar and chopped almonds
Egg white omelette w peppers onions and cheese
