Skin-to-Skin

Hello everyone! I'm new to this board as our little guy decided to make his appearance a month early.  I wanted to ask a question about skin-to-skin time and how you do it. DS does NOT like to be out of his clothes. When I try to honest to God skin-to-skin, he shrieks because he wants his clothes on. I have tried wrapping him in my clothes and using a blanket over him, but he doesn't calm down. He does enjoy laying on my chest with his clothes on though. Will he still get the benefits of skin-to-skin time with his clothes on?

Re: Skin-to-Skin

  • If it stresses him out more to have his clothes off, keep them on him. The closeness will still help him, and maybe you can gradually introduce him to being skin to skin. If he has something on that opens in the front, maybe unsnap/unzip a bit more every time you hold him.

  • I agree with the above. If he's getting more agitated with the clothes off, I'd keep them on. I'd still lay him on your bare chest so his head rests again your skin.

  • Welcome! I agree with pps that all skin to skin is beneficial including his head on your bare chest. Anna also loved to be held in the shower when we first brought her home and I still do it when she's congested.

  • Oh shucks! Our LO loved kangaroo care and it was heavenly. I think they grow out of it way too fast. It sounds like your LO is feisty. That's good!!!! I agree with PP, when they are so young and small its really best to do whatever makes them comfortable. They burn too many calories when they get upset. And congrats!!!! Welcome to the best board on the website!!!!!
