AW: Lucie's Birth Story (long - PIP)

Hey ladies!!  Sorry for the delay with this!  It's been a crazy few days!

First, thanks so much to my labor buddy, @mommatogirls, for keep you all updated!!  I appreciate it so much!!

Well, our adventure started I felt my water break at about 6:30 Wednesday night at 37 wks and 2 days.  I had a friend take to the hospital, since DH was at work, and he met us there later.  I was admitted and being monitored by 7:30.  After deciding that I was, in fact, leaking amniotic fluid the OB ordered an ultrasound to check the fluid levels and see how LO was laying.  The U/S said that the fluid level was still fairly high, enough to keep Baby safe, and LO was laying transverse.  So they decided to keep us overnight and monitor Baby and I.

In the morning we had a follow up U/S, which showed that the fluid level was higher than the night before (we're still not sure how, since I was leaking all night), and that LO was still transverse.  When the OB came in to see what we wanted to do, she told us that the U/S also showed amniotic bands.  We had no idea what those were, so I'll explain (Sorry if you already know).  Apparently amniotic fluid can form bands, similar to a rubber band, which can wrap onto Baby's limbs.  In severe cases they can cause babies to be born with limbs removed or needed to be amputated.  So because of the position and the bands the OB said our best option was an urgent c section.  Everything hitting us at once sent me into some hysterics, but once I calmed down I was generally ok.  I got really nervous, since a c section was my last option and I have always been awful with anesthesia, so the spinal scared me.

So within an hour they had my spinal done and in the OR with Adam at my side. He was amazing!!  I could not have asked for a better partner with this whole ordeal!!  He stayed right by me and held my hand and played with my hair the entire time!!  At 10:33 they told us we had a little girl (we cried!), showed her to us, and sent her to get cleaned up.  They got me all stitched up, cleaned up, and on my way out to my recovery room within a half an hour of the initial incision!  I was surprised how little time it took to get in and out!  Lucie Rose weighed 8 lbs and 15 oz and was 21 in long.  Funny enough, she was the first baby of the new year at that hospital, so we got some lovely gift baskets and a special VIP package from the hospital!

I got back to my room and Adam and Lucie came in so that we could get her fed and cuddled.  She went back to the nursery so that I had a chance to sleep and Adam went home (20 minutes away) and grabbed a shower and change of clothes and such.  By the time he got back, my parents got to us (they came down to FL from MO) and we were all able to hold and cuddle her!!  We were able to leave the hospital yesterday around 5, after two days in.  We got home and she has been wonderful!  The cats have sniffed around and been curious but not defensive with her.

I can't believe how amazing she is!!  And her daddy has been absolutely amazing with her and with me through the recovery process!  So far I'm doing just fine as far as pain in concerned, the worst part is how uncomfortable my back is from the spinal.  I'm still taking some pain meds from home, but hoping to start weaning off of them as soon as I can.  Overall the experience has been very good!  Our hospital staff was amazing and, considering her size and the risks, I was ok with the c section.  I'm so glad that she is healthy and she is all ours!!!!  I love her more than I ever thought I could!!!!

Thanks for all your support, ladies!!! You are amazing!!!  <3 Amilia
