how do you do it, SAHM's?

How do you ever get stuff done? Or even those who work from home. I need to get so much done and i can't even do laundry without her helping me. And by help i mean through it on the floor. I'm tired and nesting and i cant get anything done! How do yall get it accomplished? DH wants me to stay home after DD2 gets here but i honestly dk if i can...I am emotionally and physically drained! How will i do it with two? Maybe im just hormonal right now.. I need a break...A trip to the store  would help i think! Maybe ill go do that, lol.

  • I don't SAH for most of the reasons you listed...that and health insurance and retirement...yea...i don't understand how people do it either. Takes a special kind of person.

As it is, i only work 4 days a week from around 4pm-10pm. So, i think i only have my sanity from that. But i understand child care is a lot more than what i make now. So i guess that makes sense but if i have a free sitter or DH, i doubt ill be staying home 100%..

Not to mention DH and i have only had 2 baby-less dates in over a year. We need a break together before number 2 arrives.

  • It's all about budgeting your time. Naptime is my most productive time. That's when I do things that I can't get done when he's awake like ironing, floors, etc. when he is awake and in his highchair I clean the kitchen. I'm definitely learning how hard it is to have zero help. DH can't lift LO for 8 weeks and it's killing me

  • I commend all the SAHM because I know I wouldn't be able to do it. Give me biting dogs and fractious cats all day and I can handle that!!

  • Like PP, its about making the most of your time (mostly naptime).  I think it also depends on the temperament of your LO also.  Sean is laid back so I find it MUCH easier to get stuff done than I did when Savannah was a baby.
Emma is happy all the time but NEVER wants to just sit still.. I hope this next baby does.

Today she has a cough and wont nap outside of my arms. When laying down she starts coughing and throws up after coughing too hard. :( maybe im just feeling defeated today.

  • I have found it is easier if I just let D help me. For example,if I am doing laundry, I fold and put the stuff in a deep basket so he can reach it, but give him one or two things to "help" me with.  If he gets fussy then we stop whatever chore I am working on and go play for a little bit.

For kitchen chores I put him in the high chair with some cool kitchen stuff he normally doesn't get to play with.

Bathroom- I let him sit in the bathtub while I do touch up cleaning with wipes or sweep the floor. If I need to do the mirror or wipe down the bathroom counters, I use Clorox wipes so I don't have to spray chemicals around him.

It really is a lot of stopping and starting. Sometimes I can get a whole room done or a chore completed but mostly not. I'm just learning to be happy with what I can accomplish.

  • I set a few goals a day and working out is always one.  This way I know what needs to get done and I can time it all.
  • I do most chores during nap time and after he goes to bed. Otherwise he "helps" with laundry or dusting, etc. I also follow a cleaning schedule so we have a pretty good routine. With #2 coming though, I need to get used to not completing my to-do list every day.

  • I WFH mostly.
I'm obviously not cleaning when I'm working.
DS empties my cupboards of whatever he wants to play with.
I might put a few things away while he eats lunch or during his nap, but mostly, I do a quick tidy about 30 minutes before DH gets home from work.

I do laundry on Saturdays usually (DH works every Saturday). DS helps. I let him have all the socks while I fold everything else. Then we play 'match it' together. (I did this with DD as well)
When he gets bigger, he will get towels to fold.

As for sweeping, it's usually done while he is in his high chair. Otherwise he chases the broom.

Bathrooms get done whenever DH is home, just because DS and cat are both in my way for those.

    DH cleans the kitchen.
He actually does a lot the one day a week that he has LO while I go to the office.
He has also been getting most of the groceries lately too.

This.         A helps with EVERYTHING lol. While loading the dishwasher he's pulling things out and climbing up on the door! That's honestly the thing that bugs me most. Lol.  If I can get away with it while he's not paying attention I line things up as needed and go quick! Plus I also give him pans or a big spoon to play with.

While doing laundry he gets his own to play with and the basket once I'm done for a bit.

He hates me cooking, he wants to be on my hip and watch. The last couple days he has been ok with playing with pans in the floor.  I try doing things to occupy him as much as possible when I'm really wanting to get things done quick.

Like PP it's start and stop a lot, and I learn to be happy with what I can get done.
