Roman's Arrival - PIP

Today's my due date, but my son's 8 days old and I finally had a chance to post my labor story. :)

Roman was born December 28th at 1:23pm. He measured 9 lbs 5 oz and 20.5 in.

My Labor Story

Thursday (12/26) I had my weekly appt and the OB said I wasn't dilated and my cervix was "way up there." After leaving the appt I started having menstral-like cramps. These lasted through the night. Friday morning the contractions started rolling in with growing intensity.
By 2:30 pm MH and I headed to L&D and I was 1 cm. After staying in triage for 2 hrs to see if I'd make any further progress, I was sent home with a shot of morphine. Once home, my contractions slowed enough so I could take a nap. After 4 hours the morphine had worn off and my contractions were picking up again. MH and I took a walk around the neighborhood which caused the contractions to come 1-2 minutes apart. MH continued to track my contractions and insisted that we couldn't head back to the hospital until we had a solid hour of 1 min contractions spaced 3 mins apart. Back at the house my contractions slowed a bit and after a few that were spaced 4 to 7 mins apart MH said we needed to have another solid 45 mins of consistent contractions before we should head back - I told him he had lost his mind if he thought I'd wait that long.
Twenty minutes later at 11:30p we headed back to L&D and I was at 3 cm. By the time I was admitted and had received the epidural at 2:30a I was 5 cm. By 6a I was 9.5 cm and the nurse assumed I would deliver by 8a. We waited to see if the baby's head would drop but progress was slow. Finally at 11:30a I told the nurse I was ready to push because I was tired of waiting around for the baby to make the move himself. After two hours of pushing I finally delivered a 9lb 5oz baby. I'm 5'2 and had only gained 14lbs during the pregnancy so the doctor, MH and the nurses were in complete shock that he was that big since nothing about my pregnancy indicated I had a big baby brewing and he never measured larger than expected. Roman is perfectly healthy and eating like a champ.
My husband was my hero through the process. He was so encouraging and really helped me stay calm and focused through the contractions and the pushing. Now that we're home he's been so attentive and I truly don't know what I'd do without him.
