NBR: Hulu or Netflix??

To save money and make us enjoy the outdoors more, we cut off cable in early summer. Because of job transition, finances changing, etc, we still don't have it. I take DD to the library every week for story time and get TV shows on DVD for DH and me and shows for her. That has worked well so far.
However, with a baby due in 2 weeks I'm not sure trips to the library with 2 in the dead of winter is very likely at least for the first month. We are considering these two options and wondered if people prefer one over the other.
Question: which do you prefer and why? (Keep in mind we don't have any other TV so nothing live will be available to us.)

    For DS, I prefer Netflix.  There's a lot more (and better) children's shows on there.

    For myself and DH, we prefer Hulu.  They have newer episodes and it makes us feel like we still have cable.  We have both in our house and they both get used.

    We have both precisely Bc I couldn't pick one. I would say if you are just looking to watch series and some movies, Netflix is better. Hulu is all new episodes.

    I have ever beard of Hulu but I love our Netflix! I have been off work for 2 weeks now and have definitely gotten our money's worth! It was also great around Christmas time for classic movies and the kids section is awesome.

    We do the same thing, and haven't had any form of actual television in almost a year. We use redbox only and haven't tried hulu. We haven't run out of things yet to watch, and we share with my brother who uses it for my nephew. He loves all the children's shows and movies and there's a very wide variety for them to choose from!

    We have Netflix. The selection is pretty good. I think you can still watch some stuff on Hulu on a computer without paying. Also my iPad has abc, NBC, and PBS apps that you can stream shows on too. They showed up on my apple tv too, and I just use my parents cable sign in info to watch instantly.

    We have both as well. However, if you just want a lot of shows to watch and don't care if they're the most recent episodes, Netflix would work. However, if you want current episodes of TV shows HULU would be better.

    If you haven't had cable in awhile I'm guessing it might not matter if something has the newest shows or not? In that case go with Netflix, bigger selection (even if not the most up to date) and there are no commercials. Plus there's a good kids section.

    Agree with all the pp about netflix being best for little kids and hulu is best for staying current if you follow any shows. That being said is your budget so tight that you can't make both work? Cheapest cable here is like $40 a month for basic hulu and Netflix combined are $16 plus tax. So we have both and no cable. If you can't do both I would do Netflix.

    Thank you everyone for your help. One more question: with Netflix do you get "off" channels like HGTV, Food Network, USA, Style, E!, etc?
    These are ones we would watch if we still had cable.

    We do netflix only though I pull up hulu online occasionally and watch their free programs. Netflix doesn't have any shows off HGTV or food network, which is what I miss the most.

    For a long time we only had netflix and it was just fine because we didn't have tv for so long that our binge tv show watching was perfect and we hadn't seen anything so it was all new and exciting. After a couple years now we have both, but only because we exhausted so much on netflix. Haha terrible!

    Netflix doesn't really do 'channels' like that, they have a few shows that would come on those channels though, so it just depends on which shows you like.

    We were in the same boat and ditched Direct TV last year. We've since gotten an HD antenna so we get most of the stations we watched before for free and we've paired that with a TiVo so we can record our shows ($14.99/mo). Now we've signed up for Netflix for the access to movies and because Hulu pretty much offered us what we were already getting with the antenna and TiVo.
