Where should I post this question about nursing and temping and using fertilityfriend.com

So, DD is still nursing a lot including overnight. But she also eats three meals a day and sometimes she snacks. The girl loves to eat. So I am starting to wonder when Aunt Flo will come a callin'. I am used to knowing at least the week she is supposed to show up. This is weird not knowing what is going on with my body!

I finished reading all of the info on the TTGP blog and downloaded the fertility friend app (which is something that my MW had urged me to do at my first PP visit) and began filling out my info.

At this point I'm already wondering how this is going to work for me since I am not cycling and then fertility friend asks me when my last AF was. 2012 is not an option! :(

What do I do? Do I have to chart on my own until I see aunt flow and then use fertility friend? How do I know if I ovulate if my CM looks fertile from time to time? Just assume? If my temp suddenly rises does that mean that a visit from AF is eminent?

Who can answer these questions and more? The TTGP board, the breastfeeding board, cross post on both? I assume that they like intros before you post questions on TTGP, what do they want to know about me for the intro?

Help please! I want to use proper bump netiquette.

  • You can post an intro on TTGP if you want, but it doesn't have to be anything long or extravagant. Just a little background info on your situation, say you read the newbie blog, and you're wondering how to start temping while BF'ing since you haven't had a period yet.

Honestly, IMO it would be easier to just wait to start temping till you get a period. Then you can start with a fresh cycle and have a clearer picture from day 1 of what is going on. Fertile CM can appear at different times during your cycle, it doesn't always mean you're ovulating (which is why that isn't the best indicator of ovulation for a lot of women). One or two high temps doesn't necessarily mean you've ovulated; it's the pattern you're looking for. A sustained temp shift indicates ovulation, whereas a rise here or there doesn't. There are galleries of charts on FF to look at so you can see what an ovulation chart looks like.

There are several women on TTGP who are BF'ing and temping with FertilityFriend, so someone there may be able to help you more with how to start when you haven't gotten a period yet. I just think it would be easier to wait, especially if you've never charted before.

  • @Kleigh926 thank you! I'll go over there to TTGP.

I'm a greenhorn when it comes to temping but not completely in the dark about charting. I think that someone who is experienced might be able to help me to at least have kind if an idea before I get a cycle.

  • I started using fertility friend the same week we started weaning (I know that might not Be helpful since you are still BFing. But I just put temps in and also tracked my CM. From doing this while trying to get pregnant with DD, I felt pretty confident of my ability to know what fertile fluid was like. As soon as I noticed a change in fluid I started using ovulation tests. I used wondfo from amazon for like 10 dollars for 50 tests. I also input this Info into fertility friend.
Sure enough about 5 days after testing I got a positive ovulation test. We were DTD every ther day when I was taking the tests. And DTD two nights in a row when I got the positive.
We got pregnant our first cycle and without a period. I know this is fairly rare, but depending on how in touch with your body you are (I also feel ovulation pain) you can probably get close idea with some help from the ovulation tests.

  • Temping is really unreliable when you are still nursing and so is tracking your CM - DD2 is evidence of that. ;)  Also, don't count on AF coming soon just because you're doing a lot of solids.  With DS2, he was only nursing 3 times a day and sleeping through the night and my period still didn't come until he was 15 months old.

  • @+adamwife+ I figured as much. I used to chart based on CM, mood, ovulation "pain" and intuition. It worked for me and some would scoff. I'm willing to give it a shot and if we get pregnant anyway it's not what we would *prefer* but we'll be excited nonetheless.

  • Sorry, I think I was under the impression you were trying to get pregnant ASAP.

    You can disregard my advice!
