Target for registry

I've heard really bad things about targets registries, baby and wedding. I want my family and friends to have a store they can go in to though if they are not Internet savvy. I'm looking at BRU but we only actually have one walk in store that isn't in a convenient location for all. The others are the small section in toys r us so I'm thinking most things will not necessarily be in store. Should I do both or just BRU? What are your experiences with them?

Re: Target for registry

  • I would do both. It's nice to register at more than one so people have options where to shop.

  • I did target and BRU...i had target for my wedding registry and it worked out just fine. I have heard that people have problems but so far so good for us.

  • I did both BRU & Target. For target I did more basics that I know would be in stock- nothing seasonal or clothing. I typically don't really like target's registries, but I wanted to give people options that don't want to go to BRU. My crowd is more likely to shop in store rather than online, so I made sure that I registered for things that are carried in store. That's my biggest beef with target, I get annoyed if I go to the store and nothing is available/can't find things and I've wasted my time.

  • I did BRU for the bigger stuff that family has talked about chipping in for. I used target for basics. I also tried to use stuff that is sold in stores. We used target for wedding registry and didn't have any problems.
  • I never had a problem with my target registry by the way...
  • That's good to know. I have three people who had a lot of trouble with items not being marked as fulfilled and then problems returning the double and in some case triple items. I want to offer an option to everyone. I'm glad to hear good experiences. Thanks!

Pretty much this, although some people did buy some things for the baby from target for Christmas based off our registry and said they had trouble finding things so I might go back and add more there. I think it's the easiest option for most people as far as shopping for a shower.

They let me exchange anything that was an item I had listed on my registry even if it hadn't been marked as fulfilled. Sometimes even a different color of something won't update your registry bc it's technically not the exact item you registered for... Or people may not have given them your registry to scan when they were checking out.
  • I did both for the same reasons for both my wedding and DS and never had a problem with target.

  • I did both Target and BRU.  Just keep up on your Target registry online.  If things go out of stock, replace them with new items.  I find that the Target stores I've been in lately have had such low inventory, which is annoying for people that like to shop in stores.  The nice thing with Target is I think quite a few people have Target redcards which allows for 5% discount and free shipping.

  • I hate my target registry. I did it all online. Now looking at it 90% is available online only! I only did a target registry because half the people coming to my shower live in a town that has a target and BRU is in the next town over, plus most won't shop online! It's all stuff I want, but still probably won't get because it's online. Same is happening with my BRU stuff. We registered in the store then I added more. It says it's available online only. I have a feeling we'll be doing lots of returning/exchanging!

One thing to note is that the infants area is "transitioning" company-wide at Target right now. We reset everything the week of the 12th and having it be a brand new set should definitely help with having items instock. Nothing much besides clothing should be going clearance until after our little April babies are born, so that should make registering easier!

Some target stuff is only carried online. If you register in the store then it won't all say available online only. Target offers wayyy more stuff online than on their shelves so if you're making your registry online you're seeing a lot more choices of things to add that they don't actually carry in free standing stores.
  • I did Buy Buy Baby first.  I've had really good experiences with their customer service.  Then I made additional smaller registries at BRU and Target.  I ended up with a few multiples and just made some returns.  Target's selection (at least in the stores by me) is extremely limited and they were the most difficult to deal with when making returns, especially if it was an item not on my registry (but still from their store).

  • I've never had a problem with Target. BRU, however, has driven me crazy when I've shopped for other people. I can never find what's on the registry and just end up getting really angry. They do have in store pick up which is all I do now.

  • I'd do Target only if you're interested in babysitting your registry. We did it for our wedding and never again. Everything we worked for hours to register for was on clearance or out of stock three weeks later. We weren't registered for seasonal items either - it's just how the store works. My mom works there and vouches for the high turnover rate. I had to keep adding things to the registry for months, and keep making new decisions about what we wanted when the dishes/towels/toaster we wanted went on clearance. Plus it was pretty inconvenient for our guests, who would go in to the store to shop and nothing would be in stock. Sorry to be such a bum, but I'd never register there again if you paid me.

If you ask me what I came to do in this world, I, an artist, I will answer you:
I am here to live out loud!
  • We registered at BuyBuyBaby an Target. We had problems with doubles and triples from Target for our wedding registry but decided to try again since they seemed to have changed their policies since we got married. Target is our smaller registry so I am less worried! My advice is to definitely monitor it!
  • I tried to register at the target in canada and they said they don't do registries :(
  • I hate my target registry. I did it all online. Now looking at it 90% is available online only! This is exactly why I wandered all over the place and completed both registries the old fashioned way. Scanner in hand. I would have loved to do it online but the variation in availability would drive me bonkers. But I live in the same area as my family/guests and we're all near the same stores. I can see how it would be difficult if you're far away. Most of my target registry is only available in stores and not online- the opposite issue. All the BRU stuff I chose is available in both. Whatever- I'll be thrilled & appreciative to get anything! Babies are expensive!!!

  • I did Target for both DS and wedding.  I have a small registry for this baby, because some out of state family and friends have asked about things we needed.  It's mainly for me and DH and is about 80% complete.  I have had no issues with it at all.

The only negative thing I can say about Target, is my local Target only lets you return $75 worth of merchandise without a receipt.  I was given a crap ton of diapers and went to return 4 of the million packs we got.  They gave me a Target gift card for $36 and told me I was only allowed another $40 in the next year.  I get why they do it, but it's diapers, you know?  Oh well.

  • I would register for both, even if just to get the swag bags ;)
  • I registered on Amazon and Target, and registered only at Target because my SIL told me people in her family were too computer illiterate to shop from Amazon.  Target drove me crazy because things on my registry constantly went out of stock, and half the items were online only, so they couldn't be purchased in the store.  I don't have a Target nearby, but my family has two in their town, and the selection in both stores is dismal.

I had my shower already (I know, kind of early, but the last time I would be in my family's town before the due date), and almost everything I received was either not on any registry (thanks people) or purchased from Amazon.  I did find though that several things had been purchased from the Target registry, but were never marked as purchased, even when the guest (including my Mom) swore up and down they handed over the printed sheet at the register.  I also had one weird thing that was marked as purchased almost immediately after making the registry that did not appear as a gift at the shower and no one will own up to buying it.....odd.
  • I made a BRU registry and a Target one. I just got married last summer, and my experience with the Target registry was that it was my LEAST favorite (for reasons mentioned above--lack of selection for certain things, things sell out quickly, and when you try to add stuff online it seems like 80% of it is "online only".) I was really hoping people would use the other registries we made, but Target was definitely the most popular and pretty much everything sold from it. Doesn't surprise me as I'm from MN and the Target loyalty here is pretty serious, haha, but it's really not great for registries.

For baby, I wanted to do exclusively BRU, but because of my experience with the wedding I know I should have a Target one since everyone in my circle seems to prefer it. Which kind of sucks...because the selection is no where near what we can get at BRU. But hey, it is what it is I guess! I can't dictate where people want to buy their gifts, so I'm just going to try and make it as easy as possible. We registered on Saturday and only had 8 things on our Target one because the baby section is just not that impressive. :(

  • Used target for our wedding almost 6 years ago...never had problems. In fact, better than some of the other places we registered at or thought about registering at. Also, as an event planner I have helped some ladies having babies or couples getting married register at places like target, and they have never had any problems.
  • I just registered at Target and like 80% of their baby section was either on clearance or out of stock. Which made it difficult to even put together a registry. The items I did choose probably won't be there by the time this baby comes or I'll have to re-do the registry once their new stuff arrives.
  • I decided to go ahead and finish my target registry from thing that are both online and in store. It took me 2 hours and I went to search for it today to show my mom and there is no record of my registry. This is what I was worried about! My mom said she hates when people register there for weddings. In gonna try again tomorrow and call if I still can't find it. Then I may delete it and go with amazon.
