Stomach sleeping

My son just started sleeping on his belly and it makes me so nervous! A few nights I'd go in his room and flip him back over but he would just go right back. What do you ladies suggest? Is it Ok now that he is over 6 months or should we try something different??

I've only seen him roll from his back to his stomach, not stomach to back. He's got strong neck muscles but I still worry about him sleeping that way!

  • We leave him. He rolls over the minute we put him in his crib. The doctor didn't seem concerned and the risk of SIDS drops dramatically at 6 months.
This exactly.  If I try to roll him over he rolls right back.
  • Leave him! If he can roll over on his own he's fine. N has been rolling to her stomach and sleeping there since she was about 3 mos - it really freaked me out at first, esp since she was so young, but she's strong and has been fine. He might just end up sleeping better on his tummy too.

  • Wait, then how does he get on his stomach to sleep?

Sorry, I mistyped that. Had to go back in and edit :)
  • I leave her. M started doing this over a month and a half ago. I was genuinely shocked because the girl HATED tummy time with a passion! And even once she started rolling onto her belly every night, she would absolutely flip out if you tried to lay her down like that (for bed or otherwise). She is very much a "I'll do it myself" kind of girl

  • Both of my boys were rolling at 2 months and sleeping on their stomachs since then. Our pediatrician always assured me that if they put themselves in the position they are fine.

  • Mine just started rolling into his stomach to sleep. Sometimes he can roll back to his back, but sometimes he can't. This means if he wakes up in the middle of the night and wants to move around I watch him on the monitor, and wait to see if he needs help. His arm he rolls over has to get to the right position. If he gets too frustrated I help him. If I help him he almost always ends up falling asleep again on his side or stomach.

I guess what I am trying to say is your LO will likely let you know if he needs assistance. It made me nervous too, but it should be fine.

  • I've started putting J down on his belly to sleep. Everytime I put him on his back, he wakes up and freaks. He used to just roll onto his belly immediately.

  • My baby has been a stomach sleeper since she was 4 months old. She can roll both ways.
