Love me some Sunday GTKY questions. Rather than a clicky poll, tell us what your favorite movie(s) was/were growing up. I think we all vary on timeframe we grew ( late 70s, 80s, 90s) up so it'll be fun to see the different answers.

Re: GTKY Sunday question: favorite childhood movie

  • My favorites were Aladdin and Dirty Dancing. My mom loved some Patrick Swayze so we would watch it all the time, even though you see some Patrick Swayze butt action.

  • Loading the player...
  • Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park.

@starscream Jurassic park used to scare the pants off me. That and the show "are you afraid of the dark?" I used to go watch the news or whatever with my dad when my sister would watch either.

  • I don't remember watching movies as much as I remember watching Looney Toons and Nickelodeon. I watched Doug, Rug Rats, and Ren and Stimpy all the time. But as far as movies go Disney movies were my favorite, especially Aladdin and Cinderella. I also LOVED the Rogers and Hammerstein musical version of Cinderella :)

  • I loved James and the giant peach, the brave little toaster and definitely the goonies! So many I can think of though, like the princess and the goblins! & the borrowers.

  • What was that Halloween movie with the teen witch? She was super girl next door cute and had red hair?

  • I must be weird because once I got to the part in the Never Ening Story where the horse dies in the quicksand I have never watched it again to this day.

I loved all things Peter Pan (and still do!), I had sheets, pajamas, and fairy dust. My sister and I loved the Mary Martin version as well. The Brave Little Toaster is a classic! The Little Mermaid - I used to try to be Ariel in the bathtub when she pushed up on the rock with the waves behind her. Oh! And Homeward Bound!

Also tv- Nickelodeon was so much better then... Rugrats, Doug, Hey Dude, Pete & Pete, Salute Your Shorts, I could go on forever...

  • A lot of the movies already mentioned, Snow White, Parent Trap, Mary Poppins, Sound of Music, Wizard of Oz, Goonies, Never Ending Story and I will add Star Wars 4,5,6, Indiana Jones, ET and Explorers ( I miss you River)
  • Goonies, Mary poppins, The Sandlot, and 101 Dalmations. I also loved the Little Mermaid and now my 4 year old loves it too... I don't mind her watching that one over and over ;)

  • I remember when they used to run Wizard of Oz on TV every year. I'd hide behind my sister on the couch when the Wicked Witch came on-screen. She scared me, especially the part when she comes out at the Tin Man's house and puts the Scarecrow on fire.

ET was a good one for me and Goonies. I liked Flight of the Navigator, too. It's hard to remember ones I liked as a kid because we didn't have cable and didnt have a VCR until I was in the 4th grade. I remember more teen movies like Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Teen Wolf, Back to the Future, Legend of Billie Jean, Weird Science, and Real Genius.

For cartoons, people mentioning Rugrats makes me feel old.

    Ditto on The Rugrats.

It's hard to choose knowing that I will forget so many! I'm going to go with: The Goonies, Hocus Pocus, The Sandlot, The Neverending Story, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Borrowers, Indian in the Cupboard, Little Monsters, My Girl, The Lost Boys, Monkey Trouble, Rookie of the Year, Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Child's Play, Jurassic Park, Teen Wolf, Back to the Future, The Witches, Adventures in Babysitting, Beetlejuice, Footloose, Karate Kid & It.

If I thought longer about it, I'm sure I could keep going.
