best tub for preemies

Thiplets will obviously be early and small when they come home. DD was 6#14 and 36w6d, so not big either. We used FP Rainforest tub, which did have a bump where DDs back was as she got to be 10+#. I did like the sling, but wish she was more submerged in the warm water. DH and my mom didn't really care for The tub. Suggestions?

Re: best tub for preemies

  • Honestly I use the pink bin that you use to throw up in at the hospital to wash my guys. It's about the size of a shoe box only deeper. What I do is lay a receiving blanket on the floor in their room fill the little tub up about half way lay two (in your case three) hooded towels next to me and have soap and wash cloth clean diaper and pajamas next to me. Put one kid in the mamaroo and turn it on wash one kid then swaddle him up in his towel lay him next to me grab the next wash him and it's as easy as that! I have the wash tub from 4moms but they are still too small even at 2 months. My boys are currently 6 pounds 13 oz and 5 pounds 9 oz and fit in it well. Although my chubbier guy is getting a tad to big. I find I can wash dry dress and clean up super fast. Otherwise my NICU sent us home with this baby safe soap free foam wash that you squirt on them wipe down and do one area at a time since preemies have a hard time holding body heat and our NICU told us to just use the foam stuff for a while because of that and hold off on baths.

  • Daphne bath set - you set the baby right into it and they can't fall out. Put in your sink, tub anywhere you want.
  • Look up the Tummy Tub. I used w my last baby, bought from my midwife. Plan on using w twins. It's amazing.
  • For my oldest, we used a tub at the sink. It wasn't really practical w two so we moved to the big tub but that was uncomfortable.

So we put a towel in the bottom of the big tub with an inch of water. Done. I like PPs suggestion of using the pink puke bin from the hospital when they are super tiny.
