Re: HOW DO I GET MY 16 WEEK OLD SON TO SLEEP LONGER AT NIGHT???

  • You should not be concerned at all. Lots of babies do not sleep through the night at 4 months old. Hate to break it to you, but they will sleep through when they are good and ready.  In fact, 4 months old is a typical age for sleep problems or a regression. Their little brains have a hard time shutting off!!    A quick scroll through this particular board will show you MANY other posts about baby sleep at this age, I'm sure you'll find that you are not alone.

  • DD1 was 3 years old when she started sleeping through the night with any regularity. Every kid reaches that milestone when they're good and  ready.

  • I found that the key for my DD to sleep longer at night is lots of naps during the day.  We've got into sort of a routine.  2 hour nap, 2 hours awake for feeding and play, repeat until about 6pm when she will sleep 3-4 hours.  This longer nap seems to be the key.  She goes down for the night around midnight and she will sleep until 8 or 9 in the morning.

Like PPs have said, every baby is different, and I'm sure you'll find something that works for you soon :)

Whenever I read those posts, I secretly say "eff them" in my head! My guy still wakes to feed every 2-3 hours, he's hungry so it must be necessary. It won't last forever, hang in there.

    Hahahahahhaha.
You're baby will STTN when he is READY!!!!!!!!!!
  • How often is your baby waking?
  • I'm lucky and have a good sleeper at night, but the key to getting us started was a routine. He put us into the routine, though, because he was ready.

Just sit back and relax and enjoy this time.... you'll miss it later :)

  • First off, please turn off the caps lock.  Secondly, no, all babies are different and him not sleeping through the night is not something to be concerned about.
