1st Trimester

Spotting at 6 weeks, scared :/

I am 6 weeks pregnant, and 2 days ago I woke up to some light pink spotting when I wiped, later that day it turned to light brown (still only when I wiped) We did have intercourse the night before, and I've read that that can cause it. The next day I didnt notice any.. Then again today I am noticing some very light brown again when I wipe (a bit lighter then the other day tho)
I am 23 years old. Im so paranoid of a misscarraige. My appointment isnt till jan 20th and I cant get anything sooner... Unless I go to the ER.

How many of you guys are expieriencing this?

Re: Spotting at 6 weeks, scared :/

  • Currently, I am 4 weeks and I had a bit of spotting this morning.  DH and I were intimate last night without actual penetration, but I still had a nice big O (sorry TMI).  Mine is Peach/Pink tinged every time I wipe.  I don't know if the O could be the cause (irritated cervix or the like), BUT I had a MC last June and this is exactly how it started, except it turned bright red within an hour.  I'm at work today and keep running to the bathroom to check.  I know how you feel, I'm terrified of it happening again.  I think I will be on pins and needles until 2nd or even 3rd Trimester.

If yours is intermittent and light brown, I think that is a very good sign that this is normal pregnancy spotting and not a sign of trouble.

  • I spotted my entire first trimester with my son, light pink and brown is okay, bright red, heavy with cramps should lead you to call your doctor. This go around I spotted until about 8 weeks, same pink to brown and then it went away. It's normal but keep an eye on it in case it does get heavy and fill a pad as PP stated.

Yes, an orgasm can cause you to spot. Having an orgasm will cause your uterus to contract a little. For most pregnancies, this is safe and have no issues. Some pregnancies though, there maybe some left over blood pooled in the uterus and the contractions will cause this blood to finally loose up and be released.

This can happen as the ute grows too.
    Thank you!

  • Thanks for making me feel better guys :)
Man this is soo stressful. I just hope the next few weeks fly by so I feel more confident about all this and I can start telling family!!!

Any tips to get thru the next few weeks without driving myself crazy??
  • I'm at 6 weeks yesterday and started spotting on New Year's Day. It started like pink then to brown. Then the next day I had times where it was bright red. No cramping and only very little on a liner. Mainly there when I wipe. They sent me for blood work Thursday when the red started and I went back today for more to check hcg levels are still rising. They also did an internal sonogram and said of course it was too early to tell if anything was wrong but it looked ok? Now I have to wait till Monday cause of the weekend for the blood results. I'm going crazy!!! This is my first pregnancy and I'm super scared!!

  • Also, Is it okay to be having sex this early?? Sorry for TMI!!!:O
We looked it up before we started and it said it was fine, but I was so nervous!
(we didnt even like,... go "in" all the way lol...)

After the scare of this spotting and the timing of it. i think im going to be scared away from sex for awhile!!
  • Thanks! I appreciate it!!! A buddy is always good!!! :)
  • Spotting can be normal.
Spotting is never normal, but it is quite common.

This is pregnancy #4 for me, and it is the only pregnancy where I didn't experience spotting. My first 2 ended in m/c, my third ended with DS1.

Sex is fine during pg, even during the 1st tri. However, I would abstain for now if I were you and give your dr a call. GL.

  • I bled pretty heavily my first trimester. I had two sch bleeds. I know have a beautiful daughter. Try not to stress, bleeding isn't always bad.

  • Try not to freak out...I realize that is easier said then done.

I had spotting all of Week 6 (brown, pink, even red), it came and went all week and then mysteriously disappeared the day I turned 7 weeks.  Granted, it was never enough to go on my underwear, I would say it reminded me of the first day of my period.

I am now over 11 weeks and haven't had any spotting at all since.  I've had 3 ultrasounds so far and everything looks great with a strong heartbeat.  However, I still check every time I wipe just in case.

As far as sex, I would probably lay off for now.  My doctor put me on pelvic rest when I was spotting, and for at least a week after the spotting disappeared.  My husband and I are actually planning to abstain until at least the beginning of the 2nd trimester, but only because we know that any sign of blood will freak us out.  (It hasn't been hard so far with all the lovely m/s...definitely not a turn-on!!)

Try to rest, drink lots of water, and relax...so far that has been working for me.  Good thoughts being sent your way!!

  • I'm just about 10 weeks and I've been spotting tan, brown and pink since the start of week 5. I even had two red bleeds in there too.

The first red bleed (at 5 weeks) was just when I wiped, but it coated the tissue. The second (at 8 weeks) was a super heavy bleed that started out of nowhere. I was just standing there feeling totally fine when, all of a sudden, it was like I had wet my pants. I was only wearing a panty liner and I filled that up immediately. I shoved a bunch of paper towels in my undies and I filled those up on my way to the ER.

I was positive it was the start of a miscarriage! On my way to the ER, I called my after-hours midwife on call, and she actually wasn't as convinced that was the case. Because it wasn't accompanied by any painful cramping, she said just to stay calm and that this might be nothing. Sure enough, two ultrasounds later, baby is still hanging in there with a strong little heartbeat looking amazing!

I cannot wait to get out of this first trimester. Too scary!!! I wouldn't bother with the ER. In my case, the ER doctor wasn't an OB with any expertise on pregnancy. She just looked at my cervix and told me it was a miscarriage.

  • Thank goodness for this thread, because I've been freaking out as well. I'm 6 weeks and spotted the entire last week while I was on a cruise. Brown blood, light in nature, occasional slight cramping, but nothing major. It's all I can think about and I'm willing my appointment on the 14th to come.
I'm being featured in a new pregnancy/motherhood blog during the month of October, so if you ever wanted to know more about my pregnancy, birth, and motherhood experiences than anyone ever should, check out my posts in the link below! :)

So I've been thinking and trying to figure out how far along I am.
The online calculaters say im 6 weeks based on my last period.
But I remember the day we had sex that made this happen. Cuz we've only had unprotected sex ONCE. We where not trying for this, but me and my husband do want it very badly.
But I cant remember the date lol!! However judging by other events I remember happening around that time(we where at our new house we are fixing up, trying to remember how far in the process the house looked lmao).. it might have been the 14th. Before this my periods have been all wonky and they have been longer cycles. So I may only be like 5 weeks along or less.
Is that possible to get a positive test that soon? I tested last saturday.

Im so disapointed in myself for not keeping better track of dates.
I know my period started on or right around nov 22nd(I know I was still on it for thanksgiving, my periods last longer then 5 days) but my cylces have been a bit longer then most women.

If thats the case and im not as far along as i thought.. maybe this spotting is really just implantation? or my body is confused and thinks my period should start now?
    what do you guys think?
  • The day you did the deed isn't necessarily the same day as conception.
  • The day you did the deed isn't necessarily the same day as conception.
    Ya I know...
  • Implantation bleeding is very rare. It could be anything.

Since you are unsure of your dates, your dr will likely send you for a dating u/s and you'll know more then.

  • I spotted pink again before I went to bed last night. And have had really light brown again today.
I am not spotting much, its not like everytime I wipe and its not alot.. just enough to notice the different color. So i've only seen light pink when ive wiped twice, all the rest has been the light brown.

Im trying to stay optimistic! Does this sound familiar to all you guys's experiences?

  • Your spotting sounds very similar to mine.  Mine was only when I wiped, but nearly every time I wiped.  I did have 2 instances of red blood too, but they only happened when I wiped once and were gone by the next time I used the toilet.  Other than that mostly light brown, a couple times light pink.  This all happened during my 6th week of pregnancy, and hasn't happened again since I hit Week 7.  I wouldn't get too concerned unless it gets heavier.  Mine never did, it just disappeared one day.  Hoping this is the case for you as well!!

As far as conception, I correctly guessed my due date based on the date we had sex.  I was only one month off birth control (in prep to start trying to conceive in 6 months or so), so while I had one regular period off the pill, I had no idea how long my natural cycle was.  Luckily, we had only had sex once that month because we're staying with my parents until we close on our house.  I didn't write down the date b/c we never thought we'd conceive, but I was able to figure it out once I got the positive test.  So far my guess has been right on with my u/s.

  • I spotted for TWO WEEKS, with minor cramping, I didn't go to the doctor because its not till the end of the month. DIdnt want to go to the emergency room. If you are meant to have this baby, you will.

IN my opinion, don't worry about it. Just rest a ton, try not to work out or anything until spotting stops. My stopped after two weeks. I no longer have any more spotting, clots, or cramps. Its implantation bleeding. And also, you probably were going to have your actual period around that time too so its probably more leftover stuff.

DONT FREAK OUT. its not worth it!

Ouch to that.  Careful not to makecomments like that in a group where many women have suffered losses and might not find comfort in "it just wasn't mean to be" type of comments.

  • Well, the Dr I was going to go to was not being very helpful(and the receptionist is rude)
So I called someone else and they made a bigger deal of the spotting.

So I'm going in today to have some tests done.
I'm really nervous now, but at least now I'll finally know something either way.
    I hope :/

    Ugh, wish me luck!

  • The day you did the deed isn't necessarily the same day as conception.
This is the part I find most annoying in trying to calculate out my dates/times.  I mean, how am I ever going to know when I'm officially in 2nd tri if I don't know the exact moment that the sperm brutally attacked my poor, defenseless little egg?!  ;)
  • I spotted and cramped and hadn't had my first appt yet, they wouldn't let me make one without a referral from my regular dr. It was going to be quite a while before I could get into my regular dr let alone my OB (military medical) so when I called the OB nurse she said to go into the ER because they would be able to do a blood test and an ultrasound and give me some sort of answer so I wasn't worried all that time. They also wanted to rule out an ectopic pregnancy and without the referral there was nothing OB could do for me. It was pretty frustrating at first but the ER ended up getting me my referral so I could do my follow ups with my OB and both ultrasounds showed us the heart beat. :)

  • Hello!
Went to Dr yesterday and I feel better.
They did am ultra sound and dated me at 5 Weeks. They said spotting can be normal around 4 to 5 Weeks so that made me feel better. Going back tomorrow tocheck my hormones again. Then my next apt is on the 17th and hope to hear a heartbeat:) today is my second day with no spotting ago im feeling much better today:)
I am going to take a break from looking up so much stuff on this early pregnancy stuff. i realize now it doesn't do anything but cause worry lol. Just wanted to give an update:)
  • I'm sorry you're in this situation but glad you posted- I'm 5.5 weeks and began to have some slight cramping a few hrs ago and now am spotting brown blood. It's got me pretty freaked out. I'm glad to see things are looking up for you, it gives me hope!
  • I just had the same thing happen, right around 6 weeks and a light pink when wiping and then it turned to a brownish color.  I have been freaking out but called my OB today and she said it's perfectly normal for that coloring and if it turns red then to call the doctor.  Even with the reassurance I am still freaking out, I am already becoming a worry wart from this little bugger and it's not even born yet :)

My Dr just called me back earlier, my HCG levels are rising, so that gives me hope :)
My next U/S is next friday! So anxious.
today is my third day with NO spotting. Still trying to go about my day like nothing exciting is going on. Im not allowing myself to get excited yet. Ive never wanted anything so bad, I'd be a wreck if I let myself get too happy and then something happend.
I feel very hopefull today tho :D
