Middle name help

We decided we are naming our little boy Finley (last name is Adams... It's so common I don't mind posting it). We have no clue on middle names. We had a few names from my family, but the second people knew it was a boy, they started giving name suggestions from their side of the family. To avoid hurt feelings, we wanted to avoid family names. Problem is, I just don't want to pick a random name. I like the idea of my husbands name, but his name is Kyle and everyone said it was horrible. I need help finding inspiration. I want the name to mean something but I don't know where to start. Any suggestions? Besides family names, how did you come up with your LOs middle name?

Re: Middle name help

  • My cousin just named her son Finnley. Love the name :) she used James as his MN.

  • So we had the same issue, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, so we are actually considering using Campbell for either sex as the middle name. It has a special meaning because it's where we met (Ft. Campbell).

Is there anything (first date, special place, etc.) that could work in the middle name spot, but still have a special meaning?

  • I think Finley Kyle yourlastname sounds great. Some people just like to poo poo for no reason, or a personal bias against a name.

    Finley Thomas
    Finley Grant
    Finley Mark
    Finley Tobias
I could go on, I think Finley and your last name go with a lot of middle names!

  • I don't see what's wrong with Kyle. I think it sounds really nice, and it's nice that it's your husband's name :)

  • PS That's why we announced our baby's sex and name at the same time. No one got the opportunity to suggest/slam names!

  • I'd do Finley Kyle. I'm really big on family names and meaning though, so I like the connection to YH.

I like Finley Kyle.  I think monosyllabic middle names work very well with Finley _____ Adams (James, Grant, Scott).

We picked our middle names by giving our kids fairly traditional first names and then something a little more out there for the middle.  I also like using the lesser-loved letters of the alphabet, so we have Johnathan Xavier and Eleanor Quinn so far.  That way no matter what they want to do when they grow up, they have a name or nick-name that can "fit" with their chosen life.

  • We're using DHs name for Oliver's MN. Both of our grandmothers are Marjorie so that's where Caroline's MN comes in. I like using something special for a MN. I agree that Kyle sounds great with Finley. Don't let other people tell you what to name your child. He's yours to name what you want. Good luck!

  • I also like Finley Kyle.

The middle name we decided on was a name that I love, DH likes but for one reason or another didn't want to use as a first name.
  • I'm yet another that likes Finley Kyle :)

If you decide against that but want something with meaning, maybe look to places/events/etc. that have had special meaning to you and your DH, and see what you can come up with from those?  Or, there are plenty of name websites that will let you search by meaning of the name, if there's a name meaning you'd particularly like.

  • I love Finley Kyle. In the past, things sound great in my head and then I say it out loud and it's terrible. I thought maybe Finley Kyle was like that because everyone we told (except my mom, she loves it) just said hmm or a side eye. I don't care if other people love it, I was just worried it sounded awful. There is no one else I would rather name my son after. I think we are going to go with Kyle. Thanks for the help. I think I just needed to hear that it sounded good together
