Updated: Blood and 3rd beta in a blizzard

So I started spotting yesterday. Tried not to worry as I know it can be really normal (even if not for me). My acupuncturists reassured me. Last night was like a heavy period . I did a seriously ugly cry. Why can't this be easy?! So in the middle of the blizzard I went to the hospital to have a beta drawn since my clinic is closed due to the weather. The hospital released the results to me - 6060. Beta 1 was 781 on dec 26. Beta 2 was 2234 on dec 28. So I went from a doubling time if about 33h to now 100h. Anybody have an opinion of thoughts in this mess? What stress. Thanks for your time reading and insight. I really appreciate it ladies.
UPDATE: I finally heard from the clinic. Ultrasound scheduled for tues 1/7 at 7 am. Fingers crossed that everything is growing and in the right place. Bleeding has slowed some.

  • First off hugs. If I remember correctly doubling time slows down once your beta reaches 1000 I think. When is your ultrasound scheduled? Could you call and leave a message for your RE?

  • Sorry for all this stress! Betas usually slow down after 1000, which is why many REs won't even take them once they get that high. An ultrasound is what really matters at that point.

    Hoping for good news!!

  • "Normal" Doubling Time

    Under 1200 mIU/ml 31-72 hours
    Between 1200 to 6000 mIU/ml 72-96 hours
    Over 6000 mIU/ml more than 96 hours

Bleeding is always scary.  I hope it's just a small bump in a long, healthy pregnancy.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • Just try to keep your feet up and relax. I bled some at about 6 weeks with my last pregnancy and I totally freaked out too and it turned out to be nothing. Can your RE fit you in for an ultrasound?

  • Hope all turns out fine. Bleeding is def normal but if it stays heavy I would definitely insist an ultrasound.

    Married: 5/09 ~ TTC Since: 10/10 ~ PCOS ~ Progesterone from 10/10 - 2/11 ~ HSG on 3/18 - Clear ~ Started Metformin 1000mg & Clomid 50mg 2/11 ~ Metformin upped to 1500mg 4/6 ~ 6/7 Now going to SG and put on Clomid, Ovidrel, Gonal F, Prometrium, Estrace ~ IUI #1 7/2 = BFP!!!!!! March 6th our little man was born.

6/17/13 - Ovidrel, Follistim, Prometrium ~ IUI #1 7/2 = BFP! March 17th our St. Pattys day baby arrived

    10/29/17 - Started process for IVF, got pregnant & miscarried a 2nd time since summer. 2/22 started stims - Menopur, Gonal F, Cetrotide - retrieval 3/6 - , PIO, estrace 3xday - FET 4/18 = Beta 1: 616; Beta 2: 1342 = BFP

  • Thanks ladies. You definitely helped alleviate some fears and give me hope again. I thought for sure I was miscarrying. Do you think I need another stupid hcg to make sure it's still Increasing since the bleeding episode? My clinic never called me back today. It's so frustrating. I am hopeful they call me tomorrow and at least schedule an ultrasound soon. This snowstorm has thrown everything off. Now time to prepare for the -6 temperature tonight! Brrrr.

  • The u/s would be a better indicator of how things are progressing at this point. Your betas look good. Keep your feet up and drink lits of fluid.

  • Fx'ed things are okay. Are you still bleeding? I totally relate to you I'm 6 weeks today and I've been spotting bright red (which everything I read says bright red isn't good) I feel a mess everytime I see it. (also no matter how many times I'm told it's normal) :o) When is your ultrasound booked? Stay safe in this weather!
  • Spotting and bleeding can be perfectly normal in early pregnancy. I spotted from 5-7 weeks with this pregnancy and am now 22 weeks along. That being said, the ultrasound on Tuesday will tell you a lot. Fingers crossed the bleeding can be explained and you're on your way to a H&H 9 months!

  • Thanks so much ladies for that stories. I never bled a spec with my DS (even as I walked into the OR for my unplanned c section). The only other time I spotted was with my ectopic. I didn't bleed w my miscarriage until after my D/E so this is so foreign. It's really comforting to know that I'm not alone in this scariness! Still with my fingers crossed that s/he/they are snuggled in, in the right place, and growing.
