My two week old has smelly breath, she is drinking breast milk, and is almost always a mouth breather when she's sleeping. Is this normal? She burps but rarely spits up anything.
This is what I was going to say. It's also surprising that she is a mouth breather because newborns dont typically know how to breathe through their mouths.
Can you wipe the white off her tongue with a wash cloth? If yes then it's milk. If no it may be thrush. I don't know if this will affect her breath but it may. I would suggest you see a doctor or lactation consultant
If her nose is stuffed she may be mouth breathing. Mouth breathing in itself can cause dry mouth which in turn allows for bacteria to grow which in turn can cause "bad breath". I would mention it to your pedi and I would put a few saline drops up her nose and then suction to see if you get anything out. Good luck!
I don't like my LO's breath at all. It smells like sour milk. He's FF though. I will be asking my Pedi to take a wiff at my next appt.
Usually my lo's breath is fine but I've also smelt sour milk a few times. Usually right before she spits up (she is ebf).
