Successful at home insemination?

Has anyone had a successful at home insemination? If you have what "tricks" did you use? My wife and I have been struggling for 2 years to have a baby. This is my last month of trying and then she will be trying. The plan was for me to carry because I work in a school which allows me to have summers off. We are using a friend as our donor who has 4 children of his own. We have used a medical syringe, catheter and instead cups with no success. I have tried vitamins it increase chances and have recently turned to trying crystal therapy. With every BFN I get more discouraged. Prior to the last BFN I had two weeks of feeling nauseous and the strangest period.

I'm sorry that you have experienced such a struggle in your TTC journey. I have no experience with at home insemination, but do want to offer another suggestion. Have you met with a reproductive endocronologist (RE)? I don't want to come across as being negative, but rather a realist. There is a possibility that there might be something in/about your body that is keeping you from getting pregnant. An RE can run blood work and also perform other medical tests, which would give you a better picture of what might be going on. Seeing one doesn't mean you have to do in office IUIs. It's just a thought to consider. If there is something going on with your body, it could be a simple fix (or not) and then you could potentially move forward with success.

If you want, please introduce yourself to us and tell us more. Feel free to stick around here. We have a very supportive community. We have TTC Check-Ins every Monday and other threads throughout the week to help us all get to know each other.

P.S. If you have any information in a signature that answers my questions above, I'm sorry. I can't see it as I'm mobile bumping.

We've been working on baby #1 since July 2013 using Open ID donor sperm.  8 IUI attempts with 5 actual IUIs and one chemical pregnancy.  We have one fresh IVF cycle under our belts as well as a FET.  I have endometriosis and a uterine septum that was corrected via surgery in November 2013.

11/14/14 -  Second HSG shows that tubes are still clear and ute is looking good.

12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2

12/22/14 - Saline u/s and endometrial scratch (All was clear and OUCH!)

    1/2/15 - Began stimming for IVF #2

I hope that will bring you some answers. There are several folks on this board who have had success with at home insemination, so please know that it is possible.

Hi :-) my partner and I have had two successful pregnancies via at home insemination (w/ fresh known donor sperm). I would second Stacylh24's comment about an RE. I had been working with a midwife and previously with an OB & RE before moving on to at home insemination. Getting the tests done to check hormone levels, tubes, uterine lining etc. helped arm us with the info we needed. I hope you get some answers at your upcoming appointment that lead to you & your wife getting pregnant soon. :-)

I'd be happy to share more about our actual insemination process too - it sounds like we've used fairly similar processes. Did you do ici's?

Like many I would love a BFN! We tried doing ici but my cervix is very high and hard to see. Any suggestions? I'm set to try again in 3-/4 days.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but have you considered NI (assuming you are not anti-penis)?  We did 10 rounds of AI (at home) with no luck and then got pregnant first time with NI.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

I know what AI is but not sure what NI is..I am not anti-penis if its what is going to help me get pregnant. The only problem is I dont want to cause awkwardness between my friend and I.

Thanks! I have also used pressed but put it into the sperm cup prior to putting it into a syringe. I have also used instead I ps with every insertion.

NI = sexual intercourse with a penis-bearing person. :)  Although I'm only romantically interested in women, sex with men has always been fine for me, so when AI wasn't working for us, we decided to try it the "old fashioned" way.  I don't know if there is any scientific data to support it, but anecdatally, supposedly NI is somewhat more effective than AI (supposedly because the sperm has more immediacy or something like that?).  It would have been nice if one of our various AI attempts worked, but it doesn't bug me that we ended up doing NI. My wife was initially very anti-NI but after so many failed AI attempts she actually suggested that we try NI.
