City Mini vs City Mini GT vs ???

I have the City Select and while it was great with the car seats I hate it now that my girls are bigger.  I hate having to assemble it everytime I get in and out of the car.  I hate that if I recline them they are literally on top of each other and you can't recline just one seat without driving the other baby bonkers.  I also really hate the harnesses, they are constantly getting twisted and the lowest setting is way about my short babies shoulders so they are able to slide their arms out of the harnesses all the time. I am going to sell mine and buy a SBS.  What is everyone's thoughts on the City Mini vs City Mini GT? Or something else all together?  I would love a BOB but am afraid I am going to hate the bulk factor.

Re: City Mini vs City Mini GT vs ???

  • My easiest stroller to open and close sbs is the combi twin. Plus super compact for a double in the trunk. You might see if the city mini straps are any better, presumably they might be similar since they are both BJ. I have a valco tri mode for jogging which is slightly narrower than a BOB and it is kind of ridiculously large to push around the store or whatnot. And while BOBs fit through most doorways, they don't fit through slightly narrower ones.

  • I have a city mini. If I was buying again new I'd for sure get a GT. That one is all-terrain with better access to the basket, right? If so definite yes on that. If you're buying used and see a good deal only on the old style then I'd get it. I still use mine and my kids are over 3. I stopped using my Select over a year ago. And I stopped using the straps a whole ago too, but before that I buckled them in at the waist instead of over their shoulder. If assembling the Select annoys you I would think collapsing a BOB would annoy you too. Plus it's heavy. It's a great stroller but I wouldn't use it for a go-to daily stroller.
  • I havent used it yet because my twins are only a month old but we bought the B Agile double stroller because of easier access to the basket (from multiple angles!).  It was also about 100 bucks cheaper on Amazon than the BJCM.  It gets very good reviews as well.  Good luck!

  • I don't have any advice, but was in Buy Buy Baby today & was completely overwhelmed looking at the different choices & it was tough bc some of the ones I wanted to see they didn't have the floor model for (even though they have like 100 strollers there, very few floor models for double strollers, so that was a little disappointing).
I'm due 3/26, registered for Joovy Twin Roo which is basically like the snap n go which uses the infant car seats.
I want to get something else, besides eventually getting a jogging stroller, but I feel very lost through the whole process.
Will keep checking back here to see what others say.
  • I'd go with either and avoid the BOB. I have the GT and love it - very easily to fold/lift and great on walks. When I "test drive" the non GT, it was pretty similar. Both have horrible under stroller storage.
  • I have a city mini gt (for the singleton) and for my twins I had the maclaren twin techno.  I love them both.  The maclaren was an excellent option for us at the time (there were a lot less choices of double strollers on the market in 2008) and we STILL use it when we go to the zoo, etc. and my kids are 4.5 yo.  It has held up wonderfully and is very easy to use and maneuver (I've never met a doorway I couldn't fit through either).  HTH!

  • I have the City Mini GT.

    Pros:

    -Very smooth ride

-Fits easily in my trunk fully assembled

    -Great sunshades

-Plenty of room for both kids with some separation in the middle (will be helpful during the "don't touch me!" phase

-Very convenient hand brake; Handlebar has rubber padding that will hold up over time

    Cons:

-Heavy (but they pretty much all are)

-Difficult to get it to lock when you close it; kind of a pain to open/close

We considered the BOB but decided against it because it didn't seem to have enough footroom for each kid as they get older, I probably would have had to remove the wheel to fit it in the trunk, and the foam on the handlebar is known to break down quickly.

    Happy Shopping

  • I've used the City Mini for about a year during the week for DD and a boy I watch of similar age. I like it fine for walks outside but not so much for errands and getting it in and out of the car. I find it hard to collapse (I'm short). Also, there is almost zero access to the basket underneath. You have to squeeze stuff in and out.
