slow flow to medium flow

Has anyone made the switch and if so,when? That packaging for the nipple replacements say 0-3m for slow flow and I was thinking of switching to medium flow, but LO seems content with the slow flow. Thoughts ? TIA

Re: slow flow to medium flow

  • I'm FF and wondering the same. DS seems content, and I'm not sure I want to mess with a good thing.

  • I just switched yesterday. LO was having a difficult time and was spitting out the bottle (FF) and clearly getting frustrated so I switched to medium flow nipples. He has been much happier. He will be 5 months on the 19th.

  • I dont think you have to switch nipples if your baby is doing well with the slow flow. I switched my babys nipple to fast flow at 3.5 months because she was getting frustrated while eating. One nice thing is the bottles finish twice as fast now. Used to take 25 minutes to feed her now it only takes 10.
  • If they're content and aren't taking forever to finish a bottle, don't sweat it.  Some babies never move up and some collapse the nipple and flip out and that's how you know you need to do it :)  Or you could have a kid like mine who collapses the nipples at daycare so forced us to move up to level 3 but at home carries on and chokes and sputters with the 3 and will only accept us using the level 2 :)

  • We switched to level 2 at 10 weeks and level 3 at 17 weeks. We switched because my DD is a horrible eater and feeding time is a challenge for us. She's fine with the level 3s and doesn't get so agitated at the sight of a bottle!
  • We switched basically right at 3 months.  She was collapsing the slow flow nipple and it was taking her soooo long to finish a bottle.  Since we moved up to the medium flow, she's been eating more and it seems much easier for her to eat.

  • Buy them and try. I just switched my LO from slow flow to medium flow nipples and he did great. We use Avent bottles.
