Hand washing is one of the MOST important things. I try to remember to wash my hands frequently and after being out or after handling mail or packages that have come to the door also.
Immediate family has all gotten flu shots and I highly encourage the flu shot for all this season as it is a bad one. We also keep hand sanitizer around the house - at her diaper station and in the living room so we can frequently and quickly use it.
Also have those little hand sanitizers attached to the diaper back and one hanging on the stroller as well - for ease of use when we are out of the house. Obviously we avoid sick people.. if people are visiting we ask that they wash hands before handling baby (people are very receptive and respectful of this).
Lastly, I dont take her out of the house if I dont have to. When we do go out I usually keep her in her carseat or in a wrap against me.. to decrease the likely hood of others touching.
Maybe a little drastic? I have a lot of fear about her getting the flu, she will be 6 months in March and I'm going to feel like a new person I'm sure as I believe flu season is over around late march early april! Feb. is peak though so maybe just extra caution that month especially..
Also if you are BFing and you get the shot I believe SOME immunity is passed. And of course IGM in breast milk anyway is a bonus
Re: Flu Fighters
There isn't always a lot you can do to prevent getting sick. Germs are everywhere. I have no idea where or how ds picked up his first cold.
