Re: **mnj05**

  • It went well! He of course couldn't eat past midnight, well they did allow clear liquids until 4am so I tried giving him some just before that cutoff but all he wanted was sleep. We got to the surgical center at 6:10, were taken back around 6:20, waited until 7:10 for H to be taken back and we went to recovery to wait. Of course a billion doctors/nurses came to talk to us and get a history between that 6:20-7:10 mark. He started getting fussy around 7, but nothing too bad.

He didn't cry or even look back at us when the nurse took him and he didn't cry when he came out of anesthesia (or so we were told). He wasn't crying when they brought him to us but did as soon as he saw his bottle. His right ear was still really infected, despite being on antibiotics since December 19, and his left ear had some fluid. The doctor drained it all and we are on drops for a week, follow up in three weeks.

I wasn't nervous for this one (now his circumcision that will come later will be more nerve wracking for sure), but the one thing that did get me was the amount of blood coming from his right ear. It's normal and it's normal for it to bleed a little the next couple of days but that's just scary to see. He was back to his normal self after his morning nap, like nothing ever happened.

All in all, it really wasn't a huge deal and I'm glad we were able to do this so soon. I'm hoping once the current infections clear up, we stay infection free for a long time. Thanks for checking up on us!

  • So happy that it went so well! It makes me feel better to hear stories like yours! Hopefully his tubes make a huge difference. The blood would freak me out too!

DS is scheduled for the 27th and it can't come fast enough! He just came down with a cold and I think he's getting another one. The whole anesthesia scares the crap out of us and, honestly, so does the whole not eating thing!! But I know we'll get through it just fine. Thanks for the update!

  • The way they explained the anesthesia to us is that they use such a small amount that it doesn't affect a baby the way it would an adult. The only reactions to anesthesia in mine and DH's families (that we know of) have been nausea and the nurses/anesthesiologists we talked to said H wouldn't even have that. We are still waiting to circumcise H and he will be under for a lot longer on that one, so that's the one that makes me nervous, anesthesia wise.
