Baby Peitri's birth story

I woke up at 1am with painful contractions for the first time. After a month of BH, I didn't think much of them, but the cramping only happened during each contraction. After timing three of them (9 min apart) I figured this might be the real thing. Hubs woke up, I told him what's going on, and by then they were bad enough to where we started getting ready to go to the hospital.

Meanwhile, as I waited for them to be 3-5 min apart, I watched the movie What to Expect When Expecting. Either a great move or a bad move for someone about to give birth herself for the first time. Contractions were so intense and on top of each other that I had to go throw up from the pain a few times. Never threw up once my whole pregnancy - until my damn due date.

End up throwing up so bad that I wet my pants, but I don't know if it's pee or AF so we take off to the hospital by 5:40.

Get admitted, and contractions are giving me no break. They start, they peak, and before the pain is gone, they start over. I swear I am dying. Nurse checks me, I'm only 3cm, but they are slow early this NYE morning, and my contractions are literally back to back, so they admit me.

In my room, nurses are talking me through the labor, but I can barely focus on anything. I swear I am going to die. Nurse running the IV line has to poke me twice to get blood samples for my epidural, and I want to kill her because she is taking forever. Right before she says she will give me something as we wait for my epi, the anesthesiologist comes with his cart and we get my line in. INSTANT RELIEF. After 30 min, I am almost human again. Nurses come and go and all think I'm on pitocin because my contractions are still back to back on the monitor, and I am just so thankful I couldn't feel them anymore. One nurse says I'll probably deliver by noon (HA!).

Dilation stalls at 12:30 at 6cm, so they do give me pitocin. Every half hour they up it by 2 until they are consistent and evenly spaced. It takes forever, but by 6pm, when they finally check me a second time, I'm at 10cm and so I start to push.

Pushing isn't too bad at first, but then they lower my epidural so I can feel better and I can start to feel the contractions. They get worse and worse, and after an hour I feel like I'm done when they tell me they can see LO's head. TWO more hours of pushing after that (her shoulder was stuck on some bone for awhile) and Kate Renee entered the world on 12-31-13 (her due date!) at 8lb, 5oz, 21 inches long, with a head of brown hair. Momma and Daddy Peitri love her to pieces! Here's a pic for reading the whole story!
