Tingling behind left shoulder blade?

Has anyone experienced this? For the past few days I get this weird tingling feeling behind my left shoulder blade (painless) that lasts for a few seconds. It happens maybe 5-6 times a day? I was at the OB today and forgot to mention it, but I doubt it is even pregnancy related?

  • I get something like that with my heartburn....it's weird!

  • Has there been any repetitive motion or activity you've associated it with? Sitting a certain way?

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • Not really ... I guess I think I've noticed it mostly when sitting though.

  • Totally have this all the time when pregnant. I don't think it's really related to pregnancy, but maybe just to the way I sleep during pregnancy?? It had escalated to the point of severe tension in my neck and shoulder blade in my 1st pregnancy and then eventually to my neck seizing up completely. Now in my 3rd pregnancy, going the the Chiropractor has helped a lot.
  • Pretty sure your OB will say that's out of his box.

  • Some things to consider:
    - Are you sitting crooked in a chair/couch
    - is your purse carried on this side? A diaper bag etc? Is it unusually heavy?

Try some stretches/foam roller exercises (google/YouTube are excellent resources); try stretching out your back and neck as well - all of those muscles are connected

A warm bath may be helpful. I also love bio freeze for temporary relief. If it doesn't get better consider a massage, the chiro or an accupuncturist.

    Good luck!

  • I agree that its probably coincidentally related to pregnancy but not as a result. I noticed that just trying to sleep on my side all night that my neck is tense on one side more than the other. I must have been sleeping on my back or stomach more than I thought before.

Can you get a massage? that might help at least figure out if it's muscle tension.

  • Thanks everyone .. A massage sounds like a good place to start :)

  • I have bad posture in general .. And sit around a lot, so it probably has something to do with it ?

  • I have this, too, and did with my DS.  My doctor (OB and chiro) both said that a lot of muscle and nerve pain during pregnancy are simply because there are some large things growin' around in there and putting pressure on nerves.  It went away soon after DS was born so I expect the same this time, too.

  • Probably not pregnancy related. I get the same thing, but with pain, and it's sleep position related.
