Help me pick a dresser...

Any of you lovely ladies feel like helping me pick a dresser? I can't decide! I have two similar ones that I'm debating between. They both match the crib I've registered for (but am waiting to buy till after baby is here, since she'll be in a bassinet at first anyway - yay for completion discounts :) ). They both also fit the changing pad(32x16) I plan to put on top.

This one: https://www.target.com/p/stork-craft-beatrice-3-drawer-chest-cherry/-/A-551426#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=stork+craft+beatrice+3+drawer+chest+cherry

Or this one: https://www.meijer.com/s/stork-craft-beatrice-3-drawer-dresser-cherry/_/R-33465

The Target one has mixed reviews, and the Meijer one has only 1 review. What do you think?

Re: Help me pick a dresser...

  • I like the Target one simply based on the look, but they are pretty similar!

  • I like the target one better, the colour in the other one is not constant, I don't like that.
  • I think they're the same, given their names and details. The color looks different because of lighting but would be the same too since they're the same brand and stain. My guess is the color is closer to Target's.

  • Amazon gave it 2.5 stars with 22 reviewers... I'd say pick something else.

  • Check Craigslist for an IKEA dresser instead.  It'll be better quality for the money.  And those two are the same.  It's just different pictures.

  • @Jessieann1020 and @Teresa1896 I thought so too at first, but the height is different. The Target one is 32.5 " H x 33.75 " W x 18.0 " D and the Meijer one is 33-3/4"L x 18"W x 30"H. Also one is listed as a chest and one as a dresser, although I don't know if that means anything :P

But I took @BiggerinRealLife 's advice and looked them up on Amazon and it seemed like Amazon listed them as the same thing. So now I'm super confused. If you feel like it, ladies, look at this link and switch between colors. All the colors but cherry look like the Target model, while the cherry looks like the meijer model. What is up?!?

Also, the Amazon reviews for it are not so hot. So now I don't know what to do :( I'm kinda tempted to just get this: https://www.meijer.com/s/sauder-shoal-creek-4-drawer-chest-jamocha/_/R-269706
because at least I've seen it in store. Even though it doesn't match my crib I know it's solid. It's too tall though, so I won't.

Yeah, this is what is worrying me. I think I'm just going to keep looking. I have a little while yet :) And, @ModishMom thanks for the suggestion :) I did look at the Ikea website but didn't see anything I liked :( The dressers aren't the same though - 2 different heights.

  • You are awesome @snmetz7! Thanks for finding those for me :) The South Shore is actually not long enough for the changing pad, the Aspen is too tall, and the Bassinetbaby Cape dresser is too pricey... sorry - I'm too picky :P

Just throwing out my two cents...I think it's worth it to buy a nice, solid wood dresser that can grow with your child for their adolescent life. If you have enough room, I would go buy a full size dresser at a furniture store. Both DD's have full size dressers and they don't look too big in their nurseries.

ETA: I also don't think they have to match perfectly. DD1's dresser looks nothing like her crib.

Thanks @DemoDoll. You're right, and I do want something that'll grow with my daughter so I think I'll keep looking :)

Yeah, I'd definitely go quality over anything else. I mean, you can find good stuff used on a budget. Just bought a vintage full-sized dresser for the nursery on Craigslist. It takes a bit of digging to find the gems amid the garbage, but I'd rather get something that's not made of particle board and will last a lifetime if I can. Everything in our price range was made of cheap materials, so Craigslist for me!

  • I fell in love with a PBK dresser but can't stomach the $ on it. I agree with the solid wood/quality post though. Thanks for the idea on thrift/craigslist as well, I am going to check those out too.

PS - Also try overstock... Right now they don't have too much that I love but the prices are usually decent!
  • I agree on solid wood and either vintage/ 6-9 drawer dresser. Those dressers look cheap to me (think particle board) an won't withstand toddler-wear. I ONLY would splurge on a dresser so they could grow into it. A valuable investment.
  • Agree reviews are key...and they are exactly the same, target just has a better picture. I'd say keep looking...Craigslist & local antique/ Goodwills have great furniture here and there.
