Birth control

What (if any) birth control will you go back on? We tried to get pregnant for 2 1/2 years, which during that time we had an ectopic pregnancy the ended in me losing my right tube. I don't want another child right now, but don't want to hurt my chances down the road either.

Re: Birth control

  • I think we are going to go the IUD route. Seems like the best option for us.

  • Condoms until charting gets reliable.

  • vasectomy!!!  haha.

After DS #1, I got a Mirena, which was the worst decision of my life.  I hated that thing.  I got it removed after 4 months and we switched to condoms until we were ready to TTC again.  Not convenient but I hated hormonal bc so it was worth it for a year or so.

  • I was wondering about this too. I think I'll go with the IUD.. Probably mirena.. But I just hope it doesn't make me feel crazy. I took the pill for a short time and I felt worse than I did than any period or while I was pregnant. No other birth control experience so I'm nervous. But I have to do something because we (obviously) aren't consistent with condoms.

  • We're probably done, but we'll wait at least a year before doing anything permanent. I'm still debating an IUD versus a low-hormone BCP.

  • The depo shot. It works great with my body and getting off of it was no problem.

  • Probably going with Mirena. I'm not 100% sure yet though. Might just go with condoms and charting.

  • Essure/ vas. Just remember that if you are BF hormonal methods can cause your milk production to go down.
  • Probably just condoms..I was on BC for like 10 or more years prior to getting pregnant and I don't want to go back on it. We also want a few more kids and will probably start sooner than later.

  • We're done. Sorted out during the cs. But aside from the depo, we used all the above and one not mentioned, which was nice but still affected me because I don 't do well with HBC, was the Nuva Ring. So if you don't have issues with hormones making you ugly or dry, it's another option.

  • My doc suggested the mini pill
  • I'm getting my IUD on the 9th, we've been using the ol pull 'n pray until then. I charted for 5 years before we got pregnant but we messed up on vacation- hence our little bundle ;)

  • Ill go back to depo as soon as I can, will see what dr says at my appointment
  • I'm getting mirena put in at my 6 week appt. I've never done this before so we'll see how this goes. After DS1 we just pulled out but we also were fine with getting pregnant if it happened. It didn't happen until we started trying again.

  • We had a really hard time getting pregnant and I was diagnosed with endometriosis. My doctor recommended going on the mini pill 30 pp so that I don't get my period until I am ready to have another one.that is supposed to help my chances of getting pregnant
  • I'm going on the mini pill until I can have the implanon fitted.
  • He wasn't spongeworthy.

I took the mini pill last time and had no issues with breastfeeding and it worked well. I just hate taking a pill everyday, probably will try an iud this time since we know we don't want another kid for at least several years if at all.
  • Considering Paraguard to avoid hormones but already have bad, heavy periods so not sure if I'm a good candidate.

  • I'll be getting a copper IUD (paragard) at my 6 week pp appt.  I'm worried about heavier periods, but excited about using a non-hormonal method.

I'm hoping breastfeeding will keep the periods away until my body is a little more used to the copper... I've heard the first couple periods are the worst and then your body normalizes a bit, but at the end of the day, I'd rather have heavy periods than the depression I get on the hormones.  Looking forward to DH's vasectomy after we have one more baby...

    That's about right.

  • Another vote for condoms. Although I didn't have a lot of issues with bc I decided I'd rather skip the hormones until after we are done having kids. I'd like LOs to be between 2-3 years apart and right now the plan is to only have two kids.

Good point! I think we're done after 2 but DH says no snip until DD is 2 or 3 to be sure and don't trust us with condoms and agree I have to avoid the mental and body side effects of hormonal bc.
