NBR- Complaint about my house

We are renting a 3 story town home right now and we do most of the TV watching, lounging and playing on the bottom level which is technically considered a basement but it's not underground. It is SO FREAKING cold down here. There is only 1 heat pump for the house and the thermostat it's on the middle level. It is probably 6-7 degrees colder down here than it is on the middle level and it's about the same on the top level as it is on the middle level. We have tried changing the handlers or whatever it's called to have more heat come to the 1st level but it didn't' seem to do much. I don't feel safe having a space heater with a 3 year old. It's just frustrating! AHHHHHH! And it's suppose to be like 8 degrees on Tuesday evening.  :(

  • Our basement gets pretty cold even though it's a daylight basement. We bought an electric fireplace last fall and it's made such a huge difference! It's only heats our family room but that's where we spend a lot of time so it works well for us. Best part, the glass doesn't get hot so it's totally safe for toddlers.

  • Oh ok, so electric fireplace..do they happen to have like a battery back up? We could spend time on the upper level but all of my 3 year olds toys are on the bottom level.

Ours doesn't, it just plugs into any outlet. Other kinds might though. This is what ours looks like and the fan that blows out the hot air is above the glass. On ours you can set the temperature and it has a timer as well

ETA: Sorry that's so freaking huge!
  • That is so nice looking! How much does something like that cost? I'm not sure we will be in this house past this winter so not sure if it's worth purchasing.

  • There are space heaters with auto shut off if tipped over and grills that keep little fingers out.  There are also ones that can be wall mounted and you can buy cord cover at a hardware store after you CAREFULLY staple the cord to the wall.  You should look into it there are so many options available now.

Um I think we paid around 300-400 for it. If you watch Lowes and Home Depot you can usually grab a good one on sale
  • We have an electric fireplace as well. Here is my sparkling cider pic from New Years :) I believe ours was $500 but they come way cheaper. Ours also has an automatic timer and shutoff/temperature control. Our couch is right near a drafty door and it really helps. image

  • I should also add ours isn't hot to the touch. We had a one year old over and he had his hands all over the thing.
