PCOS Advice

Any tips for dealing with PCOS & acne flare-ups when pregnant? I was diagnosed in May 2013 once my acne flared up & we were having a rough go w/conceiving. The pill had masked my symptoms until then. Thus, I am new to both PCOS & pregnancy.

My skin keeps changing (oily to now dry) which is not helping the complexion situation. FTM, so I am not sure if tea tree masks are ok. Any tips would be appreciated.

Re: PCOS Advice

  • I'd love to hear the answers too with this one. I have PCOS and my acne was always worse while pregnant. I've just tried to keep using Biore, which had always helped my skin. Otherwise, I've been trying to keep my hair off of my face and neck as much as possible as well as changing my pillowcase often. Other than that, I just suffered through my last pregnancy and I'm sure I'll just suffer through this one too. Good luck. Acne is such a pain.

  • Go talk to your derm. They have a few prescription topicals out now that are safe to use while pregnant.
  • I had really bad acne/screwed up periods when I was younger that they attributed to PCOS. I have combination skin so it's been hard for me to get a good routine down. If I wash too much it's too dry, not enough it's too oily. What's been working best for me is to just wash my face once a day (usually in the morning) and then at night use wipes to get my make-up off. And I'm always making conscious effort to not touch my face during the day.
  • I have PCOS and this time around my acne has been horrible. I've been told to use neutrogena acne scrub. If you have PCOS you can also develop or see facial hair. Fun fun, but well worth it. :)
  • Try making a paste with baking soda and scrubbing your face with it...but not too hard. It has helped me skin tons. I also wash my face with cetephil

  • I have PCOS, but don't have advice.  I have a rash on each cheek (maybe rosacia?) but not sure if it would be considered acne.  Its a blur, but I think it started before I was pregnant.  I was going to ask my doc about it at my next appt and possibly go to a dermatologist.  Hopefully, it will not get worse.  Update if you find a good solution! :)
