Constipation

So DS2 is teething and having a tough time, but I think he's also constipated. He didn't poop at all yesterday and he only had one this morning and it was very hard and ball-shaped, so it was very hard for him to pass it. Yesterday afternoon and all evening, he was a terror. Screaming and crying, wanting nobody but me...barely eating or drinking. He was fine this morning and after he pooped...then come evening, he's back to being a terror. He only wants me to hold him standing up, if I sit down or anything, he screams. We can't figure out what it is he wants, he points and when we give it to him, he throws it and cries. He'll lay down and move around on the couch just crying. I want to cry because I can't figure out what it is and I can't take another day like this. I know ibuprofen/motrin can cause constipation so I'm guessing that's where it's coming from but nothing is helping him poop. He won't drink hardly anything or eat anything we try to give him to help make him poop. I don't think anything else could be wrong but I also don't know what else to try. My MIL suggested a baby suppository??

Re: Constipation

  • have you tried a warm bath? maybe try some prune or unfiltered apple juice if you can get him to drink some. we also feed B hummus or green beans when she starts having issues. if you can get him to eat, try that.

hopefully this ends for you soon. i know having a constipated baby is horrible :(

  • We used prune and apple juice with DS1 and it worked well.  I also heard that taking his temp anally can get things moving.

Also, my LO is teething like crazy and is acting like your DS with the crying and the holding standing up pointing at random things.  However, he is not having any poop problems.

If nothing else works, 1/2 teaspoon of miralax a day and warm baths. We give it to ours daily and she is such a happier kind now that she can poop easier. Good luck.
I might have to try that miralax...that is if I can get him to take it!!

  • Ds1 was always constipated . Glycerin suppositories work really well and quick. You just have to cut them to 1/6th the size that they come in. Also all the other ideas the gals posted before me work too. I will second that my littlest guy is teething. Not constipated. And only.wamts me to hold him standing and it refusing food and fun right now btoo.
Hey I just met you, and you're my baby. This is your family, we're kind of crazy...Lilypie Kids Birthday tickersLilypie - (tl9S)Lilypie - (zrx8)imageimageimage

  • We found apple juice and hummus worked well.
  • when Wesley is I i give him some of the gerber white grape juice mixed with a little water and that usually helps things .

  • Thanks for the suggestions! I'm trying out these this morning!

I'm glad to know my DS isn't the only one being a butt-head while teething!!
