Babies with a cold: how long did it last ?

Moms with babies who have had colds, how long did it last? LO got sick Thursday and the doc said could be 10-14 days of this horrible runny nose and coughing miserable mess.

Super sad she's like this and super sad we were supposed to go to a cabin in Deep Creek, MD for the weekend alone while ILs stayed with her but I couldn't imagine leaving her sick like this with anyone. Pretty depressed after the ER last night and doctor today they said expect probably 2 weeks of this, wahhhh.

Poor babe is a hot mess and really hoping this doesn't last too long. Any other mamas have a sick LO? How long were they sick?

Re: Babies with a cold: how long did it last ?

  • My LO is on week 3 of a cold. She's definitely improved, but still gets congested and coughs a few times per day. Our pedi said they are seeing lots of kids with symptoms that don't totally disappear for 2-3 months. On the other hand, when DD was 2 weeks old, she had a terrible cold that only lasted 4 days.

  • We are going on week 3 of a cold turned ear infection. With antibiotics. It's terrible, frustrating, sad, and he is struggling eating... Just screaming. Im over it. The congestion has gotten better thankfully.
  • Day 10! Not getting any better! :(
  • LO has already had 3 colds. First lasted 10 days, second lasted a week, and third lasted a little over a week with a lingering cough for 3 weeks.

We had about 10 days with coughing and congestion. He still has a stuffy nose and it's been 3 weeks. I think with day care he'll have a stuffy nose for the next 7 years though.
Eta: Also my pedi said she's seen a lot of infants getting back to back colds so they go on for what seems like forever.

Well that just blows @jojo1112! No back to back please!

  • DS is getting over one now, it has only lasted a few days though. I felt so bad because I'm pretty sure he got it from me and the first day it was horrible. His eyes were so watery and he couldn't breathe which made it hard for him to eat :( it's so sad seeing them like that!

  • My LO is just starting her first cold. How are you ladies treating them? I'm trying the (baby) Vicks on the feet for congestion, but that's the only the trick up my sleeve I have.
  • also...ER?

  • Oh lord, I knew I shouldn't have opened this. LO has been sick ~5 days and I'm terrified of it lasting as long as some of yours! Especially since I go back to work Tuesday :(

  • LO cold lasted 10 days before I saw any improvement and almost resolved at 14 days. What helped my LO the most has using the warm mist humidifier. I placed the warm mist humidifier in our half bath and we would sit in there 3-4 times a day for 15-20 mins. I also used typical recommendations nasal saline, cold mist humidifier at bedtime, and elevated the crib mattress. I highly recommend Boogie Wipes the unscented ones. I thought the Boogie wipes were silly at first, but when LOs nose got so raw they helped him to tolerate nasal suctioning and frequent wiping of his nose.

  • My LO is just getting over a cold. The bad congestion lasted about 7 days with 2-3 days afterwards of runny nose. I used the saline/nose frida, Vicks humidifier and a little baby Vicks on his feet and he didn't seem all that uncomfortable after the first 3-4 days. I think it was worse on me, it's so awful to see them sick! I hope your LO feels better quickly!

That's us exactly. She also had croup and we've been using a nebulizer with steroids (prescribed of course). We were doing it twice a day but are now down to one and she sound a lot better. We also do saline in the nebulizer and it helps clear up a lot of stuff.
  • We are into week two. He's starting to get a little better, still sucking a bunch of snot out of his nose.

  • DD has basically been sick ever since she started daycare and that's been almost 2 months now. She got a cold, turned into a double ear infection, and then kept the runny/congested nose for a few weeks. Then that got worse and was accompanied by a horrible cough and now she has an ear infection and some type of respiratory infection. She sounds so awful, we have to give her nebulizer treatments at night due to the cough and her wheezy sounding breathing and now she is on her second course of antibiotics all before she's even 4 months old. I feel like it's going to be a very, VERY long winter :( I hope everyone's LO's start feeling better soon and stave off any more illness!

  • I think we are finally done with a cold that started Christmas Day so ~11 days. It sucked!!!!
