Bed times?

I've been starting the bedtime ritual (a bath, a massage, layering up and bouncing him to sleep) at 7pm, which usually puts us at 7:45 for bedtime. But then we usually have to be in and out soothing him until 9ish. Am I starting too early? What time do you guys put your LO down for the night?

Re: Bed times?

  • We start around 830 with our routine. It takes our LO about an hour and a half to two hours to actually go down on some nights :(

  • LO is 7 weeks and we usually put him down between 9 and 10pm. Occasionally we'll start at 8:30 but not really earlier than that.
  • We start bedtime routine at 6:30-7:00. She is asleep by 7:30-8:00.

  • The past two nights have been midnight and waking at 6am. But, he was doing 10pm before that, waking around 4am. I'm hoping we go back to that.

  • I agree with PP - it depends on how old your baby is.  A few weeks ago, ours wasn't ready for night sleep (waking only to feed, going back to sleep right after) until about midnight or later.  Then about a week ago, she started suddenly being ready for bed around 7pm or so.  It doesn't always work (right now she's lying in a dim room in her rock and play muttering to herself) but most of the time she's ready to sleep then.

  • My LO is 7 weeks. Tonight we started later- around 7:30, he was passed out by 8:30 but woke up at 9ish to eat again. We just established a bed time routine in the last couple weeks and it's been working out most nights. In the beginning he would wail from 10-11pm. I think my little guy is going through a growth spurt because he is eating every 1-2 hours but not eating on as long. How I wish I could see how much he is eating without having to use bottles.
  • LO starts cluster feeding at about 6:30 and eats three times before bed. Whatever feeding is closest to 8:30 is the one I take him to his nursery to do and then lay him down to sleep in his crib. He is out in like 20 minutes and he will sleep 4-5 hours that first stretch.

  • He usually goes down for night time sleep around 9. Then it's up every three to 5 hours to nurse. It doesn't always work that way. Sometimes ( like last night) he wakes up an hour after going to sleep sometime around four or 5. Ick. Curve balls suck.

  • We usually get her to sleep around 10 or 10:30. Sometimes she goes down earlier. We usually take a bath at 8. Then a massage, cuddling, and her last meal before she goes down for the night.

  • I am curious what you guys are doing as a massage for baby. It's a nice idea.

  • Mine is 9 weeks and we start bath at 9pm and make sure she's awake for at least an hour before that so she's ready to sleep when her bath is done.
  • 8 weeks old, start routine at 7:00 ish, she goes down 7:30-8:00. E wakes up once to feed around 3:00, then up for the day around 6:00. She has been having this routine since she was about 6 weeks.
  • 9 weeks old and we do our routine around 6:30 and he's usually asleep a little after 7. But we do It at that time because I wrote everything LO did down in a notebook for weeks and determined that he just had a consistent schedule on his own and was always asleep for the night by 7. Occasionally he will catch a late dinner time cat nap and then I can tell he's not ready for bed until more like 8:30. So I'm not strict about the 7:00 bed time or anything.
  • I just run lotion or oil all over his body and rub his legs, arms, hands, etc. he likes it

This, only our last feeding is at 9:30 and we aim to put him down at 10. On a good night he will sleep til 4am and then again til 7:30 or 8.

  • We shoot for 11pm to get into bed, nurse and maybe one final diaper, then swaddle and lights out by midnight. He sleeps til between 6-7 AM most days with that schedule. If we try to push his bedtime earlier, for some reason he's up several times a night (we did a 9pm bedtime the other day and he was up at 11, 1, 3:45, and 5:30) and isn't real happy the next day, so we're sticking with what works for now.

  • We *try* to have her in her crib by 900. We only do a bath every other night, but we apply lotion, change into jammies, and then eat. She is one of those babies that falls asleep on the boob every time. I also read a book. I am very big on reading. She still doesn't sleep for very long. We get two to three hours throughout the night.

  • Usually last feeding between 10-12am and then down for 4-5hours. Then eat again then down for another 3-4hr chunk. Then up for the day.
