Idk if you remember but 3 weeks ago DH hurt himself pretty bad. After 3 weeks of waiting for workmans comp, he had his MRI yesterday. Today is results day. He been slowly feeling a lot better so I'm hoping the MRI reveals he just had a bad sprain in his knee ( super optimistic).
I'm a SAHM/ full time student so we live a comfy life style as a one income family. As you can imagine loosing that income is devastating. He will get a disability check (lord knows when) for 60% of his income. But for a family of three living comfortably on one income that 40% loss is a big hit. Please send positive thoughts. I'll update after the appointment at 2:00.
Ugh
Re: Welp today is the day.
Married DH 7/30/11

CHC arrived 6/2/14
Ugh, that stinks. I'm really sorry that he's hurt and for the hassle.
Not sure where you live (and you certainly don't need to say) and I know work comp laws vary state-to-state but the work comp benefits should be tax free. So while 60% of his pay is obviously a cut, for a lot of people they lose out on 30% or more to taxes anyway and the WC benefits *might* not be a huge drop for you. I sincerely hope that's the case.
Also, there are often time limits for when they need to pay or deny a claim. In my state it's 14 calendar days from the date the employer was notified of the injury. If they take longer to pay the insurer would get penalties (in my state) including a certain percentage of the late payment payable to your husband. Not that it helps in the meantime, especially on a tight budget, but hopefully it will help when he does get paid (assuming the claim is accepted).
I work in the WC industry, though not on the insurance company side of things.
It's just a stressful place to be but so far we haven't had any bumps in the road (knock on wood).
