Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Total amount of sleep

I just posted this on the 0-3 board but then thought it would be better suited over here. . I feel like my LO sleeps too much. He usually sleeps from about 9pm-9am,waking to eat a few times of course. But after he is up for the day he eats, stays up for about an hour and a half, then sleeps again for an hour or so. Then wakes up to eat and continues this pattern for most of the day. So pretty much he is only up for about 2 hours at a time max (including eating then playing). LO is 3 months. How much do your LOs sleep per day at around 3 months?

Re: Total amount of sleep

  • Our LO was doing about the same up until a couple of weeks ago. He now only takes 30-60 minute naps twice a day and then a really long nap in the afternoon (maybe 2-2.5 hours? I let him because it's the only  time I can get stuff done when I'm home after work :P I take what I can get!)

Enjoy it while it lasts :)

a total of 14-15 hours in a 24hr period, but some babies may need a little more. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Enjoy the Zzz's because when the 4month regression comes you'll need all the rest you can get :)
  • My LO is 4 months and can only handle being awake for 1.5 hours at a time, otherwise he gets overtired and fussy and hard to put down for a nap. The 4 month sleep regression is a nightmare...enjoy the sleep now!!

  • Enjoy it!! My LO is 3 months and sleeps 10 hrs at night (waking up once) and that's pretty much it! She might take 2 30 minute naps during the day.... Might! So all babies are different!
  • After reading child sleep habit books and speaking to the pediatrician I learned that at this age their max awake time is two hours.  Anything beyond that will cause them to be overtired and have trouble getting to sleep.  DS is 3.5 months and goes down for a nap every 1.5-2 hours.

  • I also noticed your ticker which shows an adjusted age....was LO 4-5 weeks early?  because you can take that into account as well.  I was told with my son who was 6 weeks early that sleep would be the main thing affected.  So maybe your LO is still acting like a newborn and being sleepy. :)

  • My LO is almost 5 months and is the same. Sleeps 9pm-8am and usually wakes for 1-1.5hr and then naps 1hr throughout the day. She been doing this for over a month.
  • @ redDDD yes about 5 weeks early so guess I should consider that!
    4 month regression?? What??
