potty training

Prefaced with neither Alice or I are ready to start potty training. Buuuut...

She went over to the stack of diapers (across the room from me) and started to pull a stack down. I told her we just did her diaper, and to go play with her toys. Well silly me. She walked over to me a minute later, and sure enough, she had pooped.

I'm proud and terrified. Lol

  • I took Alexis to a play date with an 18 month old and they were working on potty training with him and he was doing really good.

  • Dd was completely potty trained at 20 months. DS1 will be 3 in Feb and we are no where near it. One kidd at a time says I. Although I hope ds2 takes after his sister.

I hate hate hate that it took DS1 until 3 to train. He wanted nothing to do with it. Boys are typically slower with it :(

I introduced the potty at 26 months and he was 37 months when he finally trained. DS2 I'm hoping will train faster since he'll watch his brother using the potty. He likes to be front and center when his brother is using the toilet as it is.

  • When we put up the Christmas decorations yesterday I had dh grab the potty out of the attic. I know it is early but with ds1 I found it easier to start slowly so it wasn't a battle.

  • I have no idea how to even begin to think about training. My sister has potty chair for her SD she said she'll give me when we are ready. So I guess start there. LOL

  • We started with putting them on the potty right after a meal. This was usually when they pooped. Both my girls were poop trained before pee. I was just happy to have less poopy cloth diapers. Closer to age two we pee trained.
  • I don't know that I'm ready to actually start training for real.  I'll get that chair from my sister and keep putting her on right before her bath.

Then again, if she keeps recognizing the need for a new diaper, I may get pulled into training before I am ready! LOL

  • @LauraT25, From what very, very little I have heard about potty training, those are both very good signs to start introducing the idea. The fact that she knows she's about to poo and asks for a new diaper are both huge steps in the training process.

Again, that's from friends/family who have already PT'd.

  • I've been putting DS1 on the potty since he was 11.5 months. I put him on it 3-4 times and most of the time he does go.  With that said he isn't ready to go full on with it yet but when the time comes I'll just take away the diapers and enforce the potty more.

  • Wtf...first I find out your kids all have extensive vocabularies, and now some of your kids are using said vocabularies to tell you when they are shitting their pants!?!  I feel so behind!!

Henry tells me when he's pooping by grunting and hunching over slightly.  Does that count?  He also gets mad when I change him, like I'm taking something he's been collecting.  I don't think this bodes well for me...
Wesley also gets super pissed off when I change him as well, it is a constant battle to get him changed, but whenever daddy does it he just lays there.  Drives me crazy!  Also, I don't know Wesley has pooped until he walks by and I smell it, or I see him grunting.

  • I put Alexis on the potty once when I was checking the water before putting her in the bath tub and she started peeing so I quickly grabbed her and stuck her on the toilet. She started crying.

  • B pees on my bathroom floor constantly. It's either right before the shower or right after. I've started keeping diapers in there so I can throw one on her the second she gets out and don't take it off until right before she gets in.

Must be the cold floor and running water Combo. I know when I'm doing dishes in the kitchen without socks or slippers on, I have to pee before I can finish everytime!

I knew she was about to poop and stuck her on the toilet once. She yelled at me.

I think the reason K says poo is that we talk about poop a LOT in our house.  A lot a lot.  She just wants to be part of the club...

I started laughing so hard when I read this that my tea came out my nose.

  • I bought Stella a potty today to start getting her used to the idea of sitting on it. As I was running the bath, I picked her naked butt up and sat her on it and she started howling. I think we have a long way to go...

I didn't expect her to figure out the pee/poop in the potty thing, but I definitely didn't expect the angry reaction.  Maybe I'll try it again in a few days when it's not just before bed. Or maybe a few months. LOL.
