Fluid Level

Ok so I have a question about amniotic fluid level. I have already searched, done internet research, and called my OB. That being said my US appt was yesterday morning and I still don't have any feedback from OB (it's pissing me off). Google was not overly helpful nor where my bump searches. So instead I am asking current prego ladies, STM's, or you ladies who are in the medical field my question. I had a 36 week US yesterday LO measured 11 days small (8 weeks ago she was 8 days small, 12 weeks ago 6 days small) and fluid level is 9.something. The ultrasound tech was insinuating that my Dr. would be concerned with the results, but so far OB has not initiated a call or called me back from yesterday afternoon. I know that a tech is not a dr. I also know that DS was small and normal fluid is from like 8-22. That being said DS was not this small at this age (he was always a week behind) nor was my fluid ever this low. So while I am waiting on the dr. to take her sweet ass time is their any of you ladies who have similar conditions and or experience. Is a 9 something that they will want to watch closely or just say naw your in the normal range, so your good? I just really would like to know something instead of waiting all weekend if they don't call.

I can just tell you from my personal experience. Baby is measuring behind about 2-3 weeks and I have weekly ultrasounds and NST for extra monitoring. Baby is measuring at the 18th percentile and fluids were an 8 today (36w4d) . My tech said last week they were a 9 (baby was at the 19th percentile 2 weeks earlier). My tech told me that is within the normal low range and that my OB won't induce unless it was a 5 or less. I then saw my ob and he just said my levels were fine - normal low, he had no concerns - just be sure to be drinking lots of liquids. I googled it too and found that 8 is just normal low. As far, as further monitoring, I don't know the answer because I already am weekly. Not sure if I am just babbling or if you find that to be of any help, hope you hear from your doctor soon!

  • My OB is concerned about anything under a 10 but will only watch things more closely at that point. I get weekly biophysical ultrasounds anyway so my levels are monitored on a weekly basis. But the important thing about fluid levels is that they constantly fluctuate (I was a 10 one week and at 18 the next) so be sure to drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated. GL mama!

  • Mine was at a 2 after my PMROM when I was on bed rest so I know that was a concern and I am sure a 9 is fine. Like @precious72381 said, drink plenty of fluids because the amniotic fluid does replenish itself somewhat when baby pees and things. That's what I was told to do.

  • Definitely hydrate! At 34 weeks I was at 9 at 4 pm, by the next day at noon I was over 14. I was told by tech and doctor, that 5-20 is "normal" and they would watch anything under a 10- and to drink lots of water. I wouldn't be too concerned, my last two u/s they didn't even tell me the amount, just said it was fine.
  • I just had an ultrasound today, fluid level was an 8. My fundal height measures two weeks behind, LO measures one week ahead, my fluid has been an 8-9 (low-normal) since 32wks. My OB has been monitoring my fluid level and growth closely but isn't concerned.

  • @precious72381 my advice was only if you aren't already floating and it sounds like you are so that's good! Thanks for saying that about Noah. I'm thinking of keeping him because he is pretty cute! 8->

  • My amniotic fluid levels with my last pregnancy never made it above 9 and my OB never said anything until I was in for my 37 week NST and my levels were 4. Which require immediate intevention/induction.
This pregnancy I can't get my amniotic fluid levels out of the 20's.
    God love GDM!
  • 2 weeks ago I had a growth US and my LO was measuring 2 weeks behind and my fluid level was at 9. According to my OB, that level is at the low end of normal and worth keeping an eye on. I really, really increased my fluid intake and today when I had my repeat growth scan LO is still 2 weeks behind, but my fluid level is up to 13. For me, at least, the extra hydration seems to have made a pretty big difference.
