Period and Frozen Embryo Transfer

Okay ladies this might be a silly question but do you need to have your period before you can do a frozen embryo transfer.  I gave birth to our son in August and am breastfeeding.  My husband and I are talking about doing a transfer in August but I wasn't sure if I needed to have a period before that could happen??

Re: Period and Frozen Embryo Transfer

  • It might depend on your FET protocol.  For me, I had to ovulate in order to start Lupron.  I also had my period back 5 months pp, so I was all set and sort of knew the timing of my cycle.  But I do know that you need to wean before starting treatments, which would probably bring back your period.

  • Ditto ccam - I was required to ovulate before in order to do pre-cycle testing. They asked me to wean 4-5 months before as well.

  • For me no. I dont get a period ever, part if my PCOS so when i want to start its 10 days birth control and then if i bleed or not they dont care, 2 days later i am starting lupron. I should say i normally do bleed, and when we tried in october i had weaned my son and then started bc the same week, and had no problems... Good luck!

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!

I did because I had to repeat CD3 labs and have a hysteroscopy before my transfer for insurance approval. I did three different protocols. Two required me to start meds on a certain cycle day and the third started with BCPs which could be at any time. I would say it depends on the protocol you use. GL!
