Attitude.

Why? Why does my 9 month old baby have an attitude that just started on Christmas. He went from being okay with everything to now this whiny "uhh" sound. It sounds bad, but SIL's 22 month old does that whiny no sound and then throws whatever it is he can't have. She was here for a week.. do you think there is a chance he picked up on that behavior? lol.

Also, he turns purple and his whole body becomes stiff when he cannot have something or if it is something I take away (like the aquaphor). Even if I try and put something else in front of him he does this half hearted cry and then suddenly a screeching scream with such an angry look on his face.

Why is he acting 2? I didn't sign up for terrible twos for at least another year. What in the actual fuck.

Re: Attitude.

  • No advice but my happy go lucky independent, easy going baby has recently turned into a whinner too and I am not amused. Offering sympathy.
  • Loading the player...
  • I hope it is a phase, not a year or two year long phase starting now though. I am not amused either. I am sorry you both are going through it too. =(

  • I can sympathize with all of you.  She just started this about a week ago.  She actually throws down a toy when she's annoyed also.  I have a hilariously annoying video on my phone of her screeching and yelling and having a "temper tantrum".  Oh please I hope it's a passing thing and not a preview of what is to come....
@ClandestineX - When I had my friend come to my home to babysit in August/September, she brought her daughter with her, who at that time was 11 months old.  Her daughter was in the screeching phase and LO started picking up on it and copying her.  When she stopped coming over, LO forgot about the screeching thing.  So I think they definitely do copy what they hear/see.
  • I think it's definitely possible he learned it. When Torrin has been around other kids this last month we heard sounds that we had never heard him make before. They were also "talking" back and forth to each other.

He also had his first rearing back, kicking, and screaming tantrum at SO's family get together. I was prying him off of his 10 year old cousin who I guess must have had the most coolest looking magic cards in the world. He was obsessed. They must have tunnel vision because when they are into something they see/hear nothing else.

Sorry you're having a rough time!

  • Omg I could've written this myself. Brayden is being such a divo. Like straight up legs kicking, going boneless, turning red when I say "no" . The only kids around Brayden are 6,7, & 11 and he was doing this before they came to visit so I don't know what's up. Sorry Connor is giving you a hard time & I hope you're feeling better.

  • My LO will stiffen up and huff at me.  He has also gotten really bad at throwing his head back when he gets mad.  I don't know where he got this from but I thought I had a little longer before this phase came, lol.

  • Lol, well I am not glad you all are also going through this. I wonder why they are doing this so early, trying to be grown up and stuff...

I hope it gets easier with everyone.

    Thanks @Tondraluv , I am doing better now. =)

  • It's possible that he learned it and that it will be a short-lived phase. I've seen N and my best friend's baby do this when they're around toddlers.

I didn't think they can learn something like this so young either but I've seen it first hand. Hope this is a short phase for all of our babies.

  • Oh yeah...I have a total drama queen over here too! Arching back, screamin, throwing pacifier across room.  Not fun!

This!!! i cant even believe it at times. I mean seriously WTF. i took the remote away from her yesterday and she proceeded to swing at me cause she was pissed...
  • My baby throws some hellacious temper tantrums. My husband was teasing her last night and she got so mad she tried to bite him! Yikes!

They are just "spirited" children. Think how fun it will be when they can talk back!
    Lmao.

I don't want to think about that. Even my husband was like "You are going to have your hands full, just watch." I am like "If he keeps this up he will be shipped off to California until he turns 4."

Oh and he also likes to bite when someone says "no hit" and for some reason he is obsessed with trying to scratch eyes out. When I move his hands and tell him "no hit" he either tries to bite (in a guise of trying to kiss) or he will hit harder and kick and scream if you move him.

I do think the whining was learned but everything else is just him I guess... damn.

  • Just wait until they develop real opinions!  My son started that around 14 months and it just escalated from there.  The terrible twos are no joke, and I think he started his fully about 6 months prior to 2.  Hope that means we're actually going through the trying 3's now :)  LOL!  Oh, only another year and 3 months of toddler hell... right?  right?!

Oh, not right... then it's the girls turn, two 2 year olds!  I'm scared!  Hold me please!

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

  • My son started making constant whining noises every.single.day from 4-7pm about 3 months ago. It is exhausting.

  • Haha I could have written this too! My normally laid back, easygoing baby has turned into a whiner seemingly overnight. Anytime I take something away he lets out this high pitched whine and sometimes he even does it for absolutely no reason. We joke that he is hitting his terrible twos early with this new attitude but here's to hoping it's just a phase ? :/

  • Zara arches her back and throws herself back on or on the floor when she gets upset...full on tantrum! I read on my babycenter app that it's a phase that starts around this age.

@clandestineX Ella has been doing this for as long as I can remember
  • Yes Ava has done this forever it seems! She has always been very active and constantly wanting to move and look around and if she cant or something doesn't go her way..watch out! She will try to get ahold of the wipes container and if i try to take them away you would have thought that i just slapped her or something! she does the whole silent cry thing holding her breath thing and then does this awful high pitched scream! Crazy! This is new but now she gets really pissed because she cant stand up. Like really pissed so i just stand her up and hold on to her arms  until she eventually gets tired and sits down.
