If your baby throws up A LOT?

Katelyn throws up a lot, during feedings, immediately after feedings and multiple times in between. I am not really sure how she keeps gaining weight but she does. Anyway, my question. Would you try to make sure she goes at least 2-3 hrs between feedings? Some days I will feed her on both sides, she throws up and 15-20 minutes later she fusses like she is hungry again.

  • Ds1 spit up A LOT too. Now that I have ds2 I'm trying to block feed. I think that he was getting too much from both sides. She might be getting too much fore milk or hind milk.

What do you mean by block feed?

  • Feed her less, more often is what I've heard. Make sure she is burped really well as well.

I hate burping her, I do but it usually means I will be covered in spit up. A lot of times just moving her from lying down to my shoulder sets her off.

I had the same problem b/c I had an oversupply. Like crazy said, block feeding as drastically reduced the amount of spit up. Block feeding is feeding multiple times on the same side. AmyG explains it really well in the breastfeeding thread.

Thanks I will read through that thread again.
  • My baby eats so fast and will spit it up so I usually let her eat a little then we burp then she eats a little more and repeat it has worked for us so far

  • My girly spits up a lot as well. Whenever she un latches I will burp her and that seems to be helping.

I'm having the same problem... Luca spits up a lot when he breast feeds but not when he's bottle fed. (I pump so DH can take a feeding or two.) I tried to scroll through the breast feeding thread to find info on block feeding. I'm concerned because the info I found suggests block feeding is for reducing an oversupply. I don't believe I have an oversupply I think I have a fast let down and Luca is eating to quickly. Does anyone know if block feeding work for this issue?

Edited for posting before I was finished. Mobile bumping with clumsy thumbs.
  • My life is ridiculous amounts of spit up ( I call it vomit cause its just so much) and a very fussy baby after feedings. Takes about an hour to calm her down. :(  I feel so bad for her. I think she's in pain (gas?). I have tried all the alternative feeding positions as I think it's from fast flow since she is always gulping (like suck gulp, suck gulp), making clicking sounds, and spits up a LOOOT of milk.  I burp her a lot during feed and afterwards. I've been writing down when it seems to happen but there is no pattern as to when she is content after eating or upset.  I only feed one breast per, and have tried block feeding if she wants to eat again after a short time.
    It's emotionally exhausting.
If she just spat up and wasn't hunch over crying and appearing to be in pain, it wouldbn't be so bad.
