WHY???? (vent)

did i do this to myself. LO is still sleeping in my bed with us. and its starting to drive me crazy. Last night i got zero sleep. She kicks, scoots, tosses and turns all night long. Trust me ladies i never intended to bed share, nore did I ever think things would be this bad. Now i need to emergency sleep train her. I am dreading it because the sound of a screaming baby kinda drives me nuts! I guess i only have myself to blame.

:((

Re: WHY???? (vent)

  • I am in the same boat; you are not alone. That was the one thing I swore I'd never do, and here we are. But everyday there's a different excuse not to try. Last night was 1 degree outside. That plus a chilly bedroom made it even more important to snuggle.
She hates her crib. We've tried warming it with a heating pad, adding a fleece blanket on top of the sheet, her favorite toy- she just doesn't equate it with sleep. She automatically stands up crying the second she touches the mattress- even from a dead sleep. The good news is I've talke to a few coworkers who planned to bed share, and they have amazing kids. So, for now, I'm just enjoying the time I have wih her where she wants to snuggle.

  • @ccooke3 i didnt mind it before but now she is getting pretty big. I guess if i had a king size bed this wouldnt matter.

P.S LO also hates her crib
  • Sometimes, when my husband is on duty to take care of Brayden that night, I wake up to find him in the middle of us or to him pulling my hair to wake me up. He hates his crib too.

  • @rgrundon i ought a beautiful crib too. And it was so pricey. And she hasnt used it much either. Do you have a king size bed?
  • We bedshare and we started sleep training on monday night (I think). LO has been waking up every 2 hours (at best) FOREVER and I have had enough. Welp, last night he slept from 11-4:30 in his crib all alone :) I am so freakin happy

For the first few nights, we couldn't put him down without about 30 minutes of sushing and belly rubbing to get him back to sleep (if at all). Last night we let him cry, it was only 15 minutes of crying (not full on screaming, with little breaks every few minutes when he got distracted), then he tried to find various positions to get comfy for about 45 minutes, he ended up falling asleep standing up on the rail of the crib :) at that point I went in and layed him on his back and he immediately went to sleep. The last 3-4 times I've put him down now he barely moves, doesn't even open his eyes!

I was seriously dreading this whole thing but it has been so much easier then I thought. I went from a baby who would not sleep unless he was walked in his infant car seat to one who goes to sleep on his own (almost) in a matter of days. Yes there was crying but not tear your heart out screaming, I think you really just psyche yourself up, part of me is also sad that he's growing up and doesn't need to snuggle with mama to go to sleep too :) but ultimately I need to sleep

    sorry for the book

TLDR: Sleep training is not as hard as you think, once you get past the first few nights you will look back and think that you should have done it sooner!

How did it go @lilbit0910? First night or two was pretty rough. Hubby wanted to give up but I kept reminding him it will get better quickly

  • @canukmam That is how I felt when I sleep trained LO. I swore I would never do CIO and the first day was Bad. But a few days later I was like why did I not do this sooner?!?! Now I try to speak up when others are questioning it because it's so worth it!!
