Nighttime sleep for baby?

The last couple of nights my 4 week LO has been only sleeping 10-15 at a time. He hates to be swaddled, we have tried the RNP (which he has slept I. Since week 1) a cradle and swing and still only 10-15 min. He isn't really crying but wants to be held after a bit. Is this normal? Any suggestions?

Re: Nighttime sleep for baby?

  • If he's not crying, what makes you think he needs to be held?  My LO makes lots of grunting noises but falls asleep on her own.  When she does this, I don't pick her up because I know she will put herself to sleep.  I agree, the noise does keep me up but she does go to sleep.

  • He grunts for about 5 min then starts to cry. The moment I hold him he stops or goes back to sleep. I've tried to let him cry for a couple of min before
    Picking him up
  • My LO is very restless and will wake up every 15-20 min kicking and grunting. I usually wait and see if she is really upset and needs to be held or if she just has a little gas and is trying to push it out usually she falls right back asleep

  • I have the same issue. Falls asleep, I put her down, then she screams bloody murder until I hold her again. Have you tried letting him sleep on you? My LO is currently asleep on my chest and has been for the last 4 hours. It's the only way she'll fall asleep and stay asleep.

  • Yes sleeping on me works but then I don't sleep- paranoid about husband rolling over in him :( or I loose feeling in my arms
  • The Happiest Baby on the Block book review 5 techniques, swaddling, swinging, shushing, sucking...and one more I can't remember.  Doing all 5 is supposed to be great for calming baby.  Maybe doing all 5 will work instead of doing just the swaddling.

White noise machine for us and it works like a charm. Ours had a timer, so if I start it while changing his diaper (it is next to the changing table instead of the crib so it doesn't interfere with the monitor) and swaddling him for bed that he goes down much easier at night. Also have to make sure the Swaddle is tight enough for his arms not to escape, otherwise he wakes immediately.

    Happiest Baby helps a lot.

  • What app do u use? I've tried a bunch and my little love only likes the vacuum! I've tried recording it & playing different apps but he only wants the real thing. At 3 am I hate it but it makes him happy so that's all that matters. Just can't run it all night for him to stay asleep.
  • "White Noise" app has a vacuum sound.

  • My lo isn't sleeping either. Not crying right now but talking/fussing in her bassinet. Last 2 nights she has been wide awake allll night with no breaks.

Thank you- I have it but LO only likes the real thing.

  • My white noise app is called Sound Sleeper. The LC used it on our little girl in the hospital and it was amazing! She went to sleep instantly! We use it everyday. The vacuum is her favorite.
