Won't have dresser in "nursery" at first. Suggestions for clothes?

We're in the process of having a house built, and it's not looking like it will be done before I deliver. I don't want to set up the crib or anything in our rental because hopefully we'll be moving within a month or two of her birth. The crib I bought has a discontinued dresser that I can't find anywhere, so I'm just going to buy a different one to match it once it's set up and we're in the new house. My question is.. Do any of you have suggestions on keeping her clothes and other stuff organized before I have a dedicated nursery and dresser for her? I'm planning to hang a lot of her clothes, but what about everything else? (sleepers, socks, accessories, etc) Maybe just rock the Tupperware bins? Anyone else in a similar situation?

  • We have a dresser, a small closet, and I've also made use of the two shelves that are part of her changing table. I bought different baskets to keep things organized.  Since you won't have access to any of that, I think the tupperware bins are a great idea.  If you have room under your bed you could even get the long narrow ones and eventually just put it under her crib once you get it all set up (for even more storage).

  • Ooh.. The ones under the crib are a really good idea! I was not crazy about getting the big ones because they're really bulky, but the flat ones may be a better way to go. I should look at the crib dimensions and see if they'll fit underneath once it's set up.. Good call! Thanks!

  • I say rock the storage bins!!! That way when it's moving time, you'll already have some baby stuff in the bins and ready to go!
    Practical and convenient! :)
  • We got these from container store that fit in our closet:

  • We got this storage thing from target for about $40 I think and the bins were 2/$11. We're using it for in out living room to help with general organization, but you could use it for lo's clothes now and other things once you get the dresser. image
  • We did this with IKEA shelves. Also have plastic drawers in the closet.
  • We registered for some hanging organizers for the closet at BRU. I think those will be good because we can see them, and won't have to constantly be worried about dragging out bins/boxes and they take up less space.

  • I thought I'd keep DD's nice, organized and folded....then she was born! HAHA! Jokes on me!

As a newborn, wearing mostly sleepers and onesies, I stopped folding clothes. Now at age 2, I am starting to gold, because clothes look wrinkled. But the sleepers and onesies don't look wrinkled if you don't fold.

So, any of the storage suggestions above will work great until you get a dresser!
  • We never used a dresser for DS and we won't have space for one with the twins. We hang a majority of clothes up, fold pants, shorts, etc and put them on the shelf in the closet, and got a couple of 3-drawer organizer bins for socks, bibs, hats, and anything else that needed a home. This has worked out well for us. As a pp said, if you go the route of using any of the plastic bins they will be easier to move later :).
