My LO is BF but gets one bottle in the late night feeding, started from having to supplement. She started out at 2 oz but now she takes anywhere from 2.5 to 3.
I bf and then supplement with formula. My LO will eat 3 oz of formula during the day (every 3-4 hours) and 4 oz at night (every 4-5 hours). She is 3 weeks old
Mine is almost three weeks and formula fed. He is typically 2-3 ounces every 2-3 hours. I've started offering him four ounces since several times in the last day he finished his three ounces and still seemed hungry. I think he's having a growth spurt now.
I think she gets quite a bit at the boob. The few times I've pumped and given her a bottle we'd offer 2-4 oz. Breastmilk changes to meet the child's needs as they age though and they usually stay around 3 oz every 3 hours until 6 months (25 oz average in 24 hours). From what I've read you need to up the amount of formula as they age, ask your pedi for a formula chart.
Edited because I see a pp shared a formula chart already.
Babies are reflexive in their sucking. They will suck (I.e. In some cases continue eating) as long as they are given something to suck. Yes formula intake changes but it is possible to over feed. I would talk to your pediatrician.
My LO is a lil piggie, 6 days old today and takes 3oz of breastmilk every 2-3 hrs. Thank god I have an oversupply from engorgement already! I'm pretty sure I have nipple fissures as it's extremely painful to nurse even with a shield, so I think I'm just gonna pump.
My LO eats 3-4 oz every 2-4 hrs and is 5 weeks old. Most if the time it is 4 oz but twice now she has eaten 5 oz but apparently that's rare . She is formula feed most if the time with occasional bottle of BM.
My LO is 2.5 weeks and formula fed and she takes 2-3 oz every 2-4 hours... During the day she usually goes 2-3 hours and at night usually 3-4...
I know it's possible to over feed on formula, but my pedi said to make sure you take breaks and burp her, and if she isn't vomiting it back up, it's ok...
So far so good (knock on wood). My little piglet already gained 8 oz on top of her birth weight at a 2 week weight check!
My son is 18 days old and eats about 3 oz every 3 hours. Here is a chart I found for how much formula a baby should be eating for his/her age:
@emilysalley thanks for that chart. I swear I've tried searching for one like 5 times and couldn't find one. Must have been using the wrong words or just over tired LOL
M is 3 weeks and 4 days and eats 4 oz. at every feeding...he would like to get to eat more or so he says. We really make him work for the last oz. or so just to make sure he's not eating to eat. Our doctor suggested it, so we burp a lot, slow things down, etc. Most times he wants it. He weighs 9lbs 8oz at his last appt.
Ozzy consistently eats 3 oz every 3 hours. If he's hit a growth spurt, he will do 4 oz. It still doesn't put him to sleep for longer than 3 hours. Oh and he's 9 weeks today and exclusively formula fed.
2.5 weeks old and the two times he's had a bottle he took 5 oz. and still kept on his regular "every 2 hour" nursing schedule. So I'm assuming about 5 oz.
Re: how many oz is your lo eating and how many weeks old?
