Who else is snowed in today?

We have about 9-10 inches outside (Philly/South Jersey).  No school or work today and both of my doctors appts (OB and growth u/s with MFM) were cancelled... I'm not even going to bother rescheduling the OB appt since I have another one next Friday, but it should be fun trying to reschedule the growth u/s.  WOOT! ;)

But I AM really looking forward to a snow day in with my family!  I plan to try to get all the Christmas stuff away today.  Or, ya know, nap.  I'm sure that will win considering DS2 was up ALL night last night and I have no idea why.  He had to sleep cuddled right next to me with his hand on my face.  Bad dream??  Who knows.  Neither of us got much sleep at all.  SIGH.

I hate snow, but yay for a day off!

ETA: My OB called and she wants me to come in today at 2pm.  Right at nap time... GREAT!  But I'll go.  Trying to reschedule my growth u/s now.  Good times!

Re: Who else is snowed in today?

  • Me! We have 10.8 inches so far...still snowing. My work did not close but I used a PTO day because there is no way I'm attempting to go out in my compact car. I might attempt some Christmas decor removal as well...

  • NY here. I'm not sure how many inches we got but suffice to say its a ton. We have a doctors appointment at 1 pm. I'm hoping the roads will be cleaned up by then.
  • We have about 7 inches and the temperature is -4. Vincent's newborn pictures were supposed to be today, but we rescheduled for tomorrow.

  • snowed in here too but I brought work home soI dont haveto use a vacation day.  DH will be out all day snowblowing for his clients.  We have about 7 inches here.  I was supposed to have an ob appointment this am but they were able to see me last night luckily.

Sorry you didnt get much sleep last night but I have to admit I am dying over here imagining the cuteness of DS sleeping all night with his hand on your face!

  • Me! We got about 20 inches and still falling. It is soo cold out. With the windchill it feels like -21. Going out to brush off my truck in a bit but other than that staying in.

  • Only a few inches here in Pittsburgh...probably could have made it into the office but working from home instead.  I can't believe next week one day the high is 2, down from about 35 the day before.  If that isn't a labor-inducing weather front I don't know what is! (wishful thinking)

  • I am but, it's mostly be choice. I think we only got like 5 inches of snow so far. But, I teach and school was cancelled last night. So I see no reason to go anywhere.

  • I think we got about 6 inches in Delaware county. Enough to close the schools and daycare, but not work. Thankfully, after my bitching to DH about how unfair it is that I am always the one who has to stay home with the kids for snow days and sickness since I work from home - he decided to take the day off. But that actually means I have to hole myself up in my office and "work" all day. Whomp, whomp.

But I think DH will take the kids sledding, which is great. Since I no longer have a coat that I can actually button up, it is too cold for me to be outside for any length of time. And what is a snow day when you are a little kid if you can't go and play in the snow?

I do think that the schools could have been opened just with a delayed start. It hasn't snowed in a few hours and the sun is shining. As a Chicagoan, I still say the East coast is pretty lame.

  • @tarajeannette -- what is this dress rehearsal you speak of?
  • I would have loved a snow day today! Like @Peanutmuse said we got over a foot in Rochester but that doesn't mean much.  I'm sure my husband was thrilled to shovel out the driveway again only to have the plow pack the snow back in at the bottom.   At least it's Friday!

  • We got a couple of inches on Wed night but that's it. Not enough to still be really bother anything, but almost 2 weeks ago we got 4-6 and that was fun. DS was sooo excited he absolutely loves playing in the snow. DH, DS and I all got on our snow pants, boots, coats, gloves, hats and went out to play. The boys had a blast, but I was a little disappointed. I forgot to take into consideration that you have to bend over to pick up the snow to play with it. Which is rather difficult when bending is uncomfortable and your snow pants have gotten rather snug  8-| Oh well it was still fun to watch my boys enjoying it! I am a firm believer that there is no point in cold weather without snow, so I'm really hoping we get a little more soon. Nothing crazy like some of you ladies, 20 inches WOW, but like 5ish to play in would be good.
  • Only like an inch of snow here. But our driveway is currently blocked by huge trucks cutting down all the limbs. I totally loved waking up to the sound of wood chippers and chainsaws at 7am after going to bed at 5am. Totally.

  • Snow day #2 for DS here. We got all of our snow yesterday but school is closed today because of the temp. It's 9 degrees now but the windchill makes feel like -5.

  • We're not snowed in but we are wind chilled in. It's 1 degree with a wind chill of -11 right now. We were going to bring DD to daycare, but with a frostbite warning at 15 minutes or less outside, nobody is leaving this house today.

  • We got over a foot here, but that doesn't mean much, lol. I went to my ultrasound appt (waiting now) and it took me 16 minutes to get here rather than 13. I guess that's what happens when you live in the metropolis with the #1 ranking in annual average snow accumulation. :) I am so happy with my new vehicle, though. I have a Nissan Rogue with 4wd -- it still drives like a car, but is much safer than my former Toyota Yaris!
@peanutmuse- It's crazy to see the differences between cities that are used to snow and those that aren't!  I mean we're somewhat used to snow... but a big storm like this will shut down schools, etc.  I work at a university that's still on break for students, so I figured it would close for staff today, since there's nothing that needs to be made up.  And DS1 has no school, which isn't surprising.

I was SHOCKED that I got calls about my morning appts being cancelled though.  It appears as though both offices just had a delayed start, so I'm going this afternoon (hopefully they can squeeze me in for an u/s.... sigh.)

Anyway, I went to college in VA and shit would shut down over an inch or two.  It was insane.

How is baby boy doing in there???

@mrsjenni -- he's doing really well. Estimated at 36th percentile for weight (6lbs 8oz) and 83rd percentile for height. Definitely takes after his dad, who is 6'5.5" and 180lbs. But the best news is that he is head down and running out of room to move. He was flipping himself all over the place until very recently.

YAY!  Great news mama!  Glad all is well in there... hopefully he can hang in there for a few more weeks!

  • Wow, people are windchilled in at a windchill of -11??? Our high for Monday is supposed to be -6. For the temp. Windchills of -20 to -30 are normal here every winter; although, this winter we've had more days than normal with that cold of temps. Kids still go to school, but no one plays outside. Windchills of -50 will shut down the community schools but not universities.

Yeah nothing here shuts down anything.  Quite literally, the buses won't run if it's -40 (temp with no windchill) at 6:30 or something like that or if the roads are too bad for the buses to run safely, but the schools never shut down.  Teachers are required to be there regardless and I have never heard of businesses shutting down in any weather.  Of course we don't go play outside in -40 (-25 is usually the coldest I'll let them go out in) and the schools have indoor recess at a certain temperature (I believe it's -30) but we are never windchilled in.

  • We got about 10 inches too! Lots of things closed down and I thought my ob appointment would be cancelled but when I called, they only cancelled the morning and I could keep my appointment. I'm about 45 mins away so it don't know what to do now!

  • I'm in MN, we didn't get any snowfall but our governor has shut down all public schools for Monday because it's supposed to get crazy cold! This happened back in the 90's one time too. We actually haven't had any snow days yet this year so I'm kind of excited to have a paid day off...especially because I was on his duty!

  • Chicagoland here and we've gotten about a foot and a half. My DD has been so sick the last three days though that neither one of us has really left the house to get anything other than meds. DH was supposed to be back at work yesterday but decided to work from home since at one point DD and I were both crying about her being so sick. She had just jerked herself awake from high fever and it scared her and I was just so scared of her having seizures from the fever. Let's just say it's been a rough couple days.
  • About 8 inches or so here in Central NJ. My weekly OB appointment was cancelled this morning. Apparently the office is closing for the whole day so I have to call Monday to reschedule. I wish they would have just had a delayed opening. Yesterday was my due date and I was kind of hoping to find out if things have progressed any more. Since I haven't delivered yet we were going to talk about induction (which I don't really want to do) so now I'm hoping to just go into labor on my own sometime this weekend. I just feel bad that my DH took the day off to drive me since the weather was bad and I don't like driving in snow.

  • With the windchill here, it's something like -40*C. No clue what that is in Fahrenheit, but it's freezing! We don't have too much snow, we caught the tail end of a couple storms since our 3.5ft melted, so I think we have maybe a foot?
OH, I know that one!  -40C=-40F!

We got 8-10", depending on where the wind has blown it.  My husband was out early to dig out the cars, but we ended up staying home all day because he was able to work from home.  I did spend some time outside with my dogs and my neighbor came over with hers to let them all play.  I set up a space heater and we hung out in our sun room (3 walls of sliding glass doors, so it's usually pretty close to outside temp- but no wind!) while we watched them run around.

  • No but we have snow! We don't really have snow days in AK. They will close places for ice. It's actually really warm today at 12 above.

  • We got about 10 inches in NEPA last night. DH spent 3 hours snowblowing our driveway and sidewalks this morning and then we went shopping for the rest of the day!
