Woken up with painful contractions

Anyone else been fast asleep only to be woken by painful contractions? I experienced this for the first time last night. They were not regular from what I could comprehend in the middle of the night. But they were actually painful and I had I breath my way through them. I've never had that before and I'm a ftm so this is all new to me! Anyone had similar experiences?

    No.

ETA sorry. I'm now officially past my due date and haven't had any noticeable/painful contractions at all. But my OB told me that it would feel like a charley horse in your stomach and would wake me up. So even though I'm a FTM with no experience, what you described is 100% normal.

  • Yes but was nothing time-able, did not increase in intensity etc. just a tease. :(
  • Yes. I had them last night, a couple of times. Nothing timeable here either.
  • Perfectly normal for some to women to experience this. If they are not timeable and everything else is okay, I would not bother calling the doctor.

  • Yes. Normal.
  • Two nights ago I had this.  What a tease!  Try changing positions and getting plenty of fluids if it happens again. If you're like me you want as much sleep as possible right now. I actually went downstairs and was able to sleep easier sitting up in the recliner.

  • Yes, it has been happening for the past 2+ weeks.  I get them off and on.  It doesn't really mean they are doing anything, your ute might just be practicing.  Fun, huh?

FTM. Wasn't woken up by them, but last night, I was having painful contractions that were about 10 minutes apart for 2 hours - and then - nothing. Boo!

I was freaking out a little though considering there was a blizzard outside. What a tease!

ETA: I've had nothing since either. This was from about 7-9. Ugh.

  • Just cramps, menstrual-like which I believe is normal and not an indication of anything exciting.

  • That's how labor started for me both times... String contractions that awoke me from my sleep around 3 am then I was in active labor by the night. Keep counting them and good luck!
  • First I incorporated into a dream - dreamed I hAd my period and woke up in pain cramping about a week ago. Last about an hour and then poof - I was gone with it as I won't be 37 weeks until tomorrow but its annoying and a tease.

  • I've been waking up to contractions the last 2 mornings, at 4 AM. Today was accompanied by a dream that my water broke. I've been sleeping sitting up, which helps with the comfort level.

  • Yes. I had painful contractions the night before I gave birth. Mine were timeable and before we finally went to the hospital they were about three minutes apart.

Yes! 3am this morning, then about 4am and 5.30am. Then all of a sudden, they are very regular. I have been timing for an hour (since 7am) and they are about 6mins apart. But these regular ones are not as bad as the ones that woke me up, so I'm really not positive I'm in labour or anything. But do keep an eye on it! Like some ladies said, that's how their labours started. For us still waiting, good luck!
