Snowed in and need advice (vent)

Typically I love being snowed in but it's not fun when you get snowed in at work. I work the night shift as a nurse in NYC and it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to drive home in the morning because of this awful blizzard.

I'm at work now and have to return to work tonight so I have two options this morning:

1) drive in dangerous conditions, take my time which means it will take 2-3 hrs to get home, get little sleep then leave early to get back to work and work another 12.5 hr shift.

OR

2) stay at the hospital, sleep in a room with 4-6 other ppl, and do everything here(shower, pump, etc) and not have to worry about driving in the snow.

Either way, I will lose out on sleep and will be sleep deprived tonight. The safer option is to stay here but I'm so bummed that I won't see my baby in the morning :( Also, all the milk I pumped overnight is what he should be eating today :( I do have a small frozen stash so I'm grateful for that. I haven't been away from my baby for this long and I'm realizing how sad I'm going to be today if I don't go home. Just having a pity party. Thanks for listening. What would you do?

Re: Snowed in and need advice (vent)

  • Stay at work and be safe! My parents were driving in Ohio and said the roads were terrible. Semis were off the road and on their sides. Not worth the risk.

  • I would stay at work too. It sucks to miss seeing LO but LO needs you safe!

  • If you have the option to stay there, then take it. Besides, what if something happened to you on the way home? Stay safe!
  • With that much time driving, I would try to stay at work. Hope you get some sleep!

  • I would stay.  Your little one needs you safe and sound, and you can freeze the pumped milk you have with you and replace what is taken from your freezer stash.
  • Looks like a unanimous decision. Thank you for talking me into the safer and wiser option and thank you so much for the advice ladies.
