2nd Trimester

Stretch marks, already? Any good ways to rid or lessen?

I'm only 16 weeks and I already have really bad stretch marks. Like bad. Like, my sister thought I got cut up by something. They are on my thighs from the inner part down to below my knees, and one side of my stomach, on my hips, and underarms. The ones on my thighs honestly bother me the most.

It is embarrassing. I can't even be comfortable wearing shorts.

How can I get rid of or lessen these? I have been trying a cream from Arbonne but it only seems to make a teeeeennnssyyyy difference.

I am at the point of tears and am very desperate! Is there anything I can use while pregnant? Or any suggestions for afterwords? I am going to try anything that I can.....

Thank you!

Re: Stretch marks, already? Any good ways to rid or lessen?

  • I forgot to add...I have only gained half a pound so far, so it isn't from weight gain, I really don't understand why it is happening.
  • I am sorry ab your marks, but there is nothing you can do ab them, no way to prevent or get rid of them, i wish there was... Are you very swollen? Try to drink plenty and stay hydrated and it helps you not feel as itchy which can make them worse...
    Good luck...

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!

  • I've never heard of this with no real weight gain,,, do you have weight you could use to lose? I'd say to eat as healthy as possible, drink water & just know that they will fade. it sounds like alot more than I've really heard of,, maybe they just look darker or were there before? I have one on each hop from puberty that are nearly invisible but crazy giant claw marks on my stomach that appear dark now, but fade with time.

Lol like stated before, there's nothing you can do. It's all hereditary. Some women get lucky and come out with zero stretch marks, and others, like us, look like tigers haha just try to embrace your new mom bod! I know it can be hard but not every woman can get the opportunity to experience this!!
  • As others have said, there isn't much that can be done.  Try to stay hydrated and moisturized, but that's more for comfort for you.  I used frankincense oil after DS was born and saw mine get lighter, but I definitely still have marks on my tummy.  I'm using the oil again during this pregnancy to try and get ahead of it a little to keep them lighter, but I know there isn't much I can do beyond that.
  • I got stretch marks on a part of my thigh that I would forget to lotion up. I'm a lotion whore! Once I noticed them I put my vitamin e lotion on in the morning and cocoa butter on at night. I noticed a huge difference. Still there of course, but it's not as dark. While genes play a factor, I also think it depends on how well your skin reacts to things. Last summer I had a terrible scrape/scar on my leg, put on the cocoa butter and voila, gone!

Just keep moisturizing and hope something works. Worse comes to worse, they fade to white over time where I'm sure no one will really notice. Good luck!

  • Mix together Real Shea butter and Vitamin E Oil.
  • I'm one of those unlucky people who is just prone to stretch marks. I have given up trying to avoid them.  I had them on my hips and inner thighs before I got pregnant,  just from puberty, and now, at 18w, I have started to get a few on my boobs. I feel like I'm probably doomed, but just hoping they fade after baby comes. Sorry that you are feeling unhappy with the stretch marks, but just know you aren't alone!

  • I feel you! Started getting stretch marks at approx 14 weeks on both sides of my stomach Still haven't gained a pound. I think it's everything re-arranging that's causing the skin to stretch. I've been trying to keep my skin as moisturizer as possible, which is horrible. I gave dry skin 24/7 since about 8 weeks.

  • Started to get stretch marks around ten weeks and only on my boobs which I thought were was strange. But whatcha gonna do. Never really dwelled on it or cared bc it happens and can't change it .
  • Bio oil!
I didn't get a single stretch mark while I was pregnant and using this stuff. I started using it in my second trimester in the morning and before bed (also after showers). Then after my lo was born i stopped using it for a while thinking it was over and I had gotten lucky and clear of stretch marks. Not so much...my boobs are covered with them! Once my milk came in and left I noticed them across my breasts.
I know getting stretch marks is hereditary and has a lot to do with your skin type but I think this stuff really works, why else would I only get them where and when I stopped using the oil? I started putting it on again after I noticed the ones on my breasts, I haven't gotten anymore but I think the damage was already done. I don't think bio oil helps reduce stretch marks but it could help you prevent getting more.
  • I like Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter

  • Thank you everyone! =) It's nice to hear I'm not alone! I will have to try some of those ideas! :D This makes me feel a lot better!
  • I got stretch marks with my first preg 14 yrs ago, my second I don't think I got anymore and this preg I don't think there's any new. What I do is I spray tan to me that makes the stretch marks look better. They r white since they are so old but I always have a tan belly it helps me not think of them.
  • I also use (from Lush) Ro's Argan Body Conditioner in the shower.  It is very moisturizing and smells so yummy.

  • It's all genetics. Nothing will help. Stay moisturized and hydrated.
  • I'm following this thread. I hear its a lot of genetics but I bought the Burt's bee mama butter and frankincense oil - which smells AMAZING! I have stretch marks just from growth spurts as a kid
    <image>
  • I got them on my sides during my first pregnancy.  Very thick, long ones that looked purple and red!  I was horrified!  However, they have since faded to very faint silvery lines, not too visible really!  Take heart!  In my experience, most women I've known to get them see significant fading. I use an organic body oil with cocoa butter and vitamin e, along with a few other things.  While it won't prevent stretch marks, it's supper good for your skin and I'm convinced it will help them to fade.
