Chicco NextFit anyone?

Anyone have this and what do you think of it?  We have the Chicco keyfit infant seats for the girls now and love them.  We're trying to decide between that and the Britax.
Also,  when did you switch seats?  The keyfits say 30 lbs but I can't imagine carrying them around at that weight!

Re: Chicco NextFit anyone?

  • I switched the girls out in September when they were 10 mos old, they were getting heavy to carry and seemed to want to sit up more in the car.  Plus I was going to a training and wanted to play with their new seats.

We got the Diono Radian RXT.  I like that they are super narrow so you can fit 2 in the backseat and still fit an adult between them or next to them.  They rear face to 45 lbs and forward face to 80lbs in a 5 pt harness and then it converts to booster mode up to 120 lbs.  They also have a 10 year expiration so you will get the full use out of them.

Britax are good seats only if your child is consistently less than 25% in height, otherwise they outgrow the seat in height before weight.  If you have a shorter child though they are great seats.

The Nextfit is a great seat.  It is a bit wider than the Radians so if you intend to add a 3rd seat or an adult in the back seat it might be a tight fit.  It is nice that it has multiple reclines, I miss that feature with our Radians.  It is also very compact so good for vehicles with smaller backseats.  If I knew I never needed the 3rd seat in my row or had an SUV/minivan I would probably go with these over the Radians, otherwise all the features of the Radian still win for me.

  • We got the Nextfit and took it back for the Britax Matathon. Loving the Britax. The Nextfit was big, bulky, and we had a tough time tightening the straps. It was just a pain to us.
  • We have both - one set in my car and one set in my husbands. I prefer the Nextfit, but the Britax has several things that I like about it. We moved them at 6 months old because it was too difficult to carry them in the infant seats (we also had Keyfits). I think the babies prefer the Britax because the material is more breathable.
