Before bed snack

My 15 month old has been eating oatmeal before she drinks her night time milk, she is losing interest in it so I tried Cheerios but she doesn't really love that either. I'm curious if any of your LO's have a snack before bed & I'd love some suggestions.

Thanks

Re: Before bed snack

  • We've never done a snack before bed unless he asks for one.  When he asks, we offer yogurt, applesauce or fruit of some sort.  I would say it's very rare that he asks for a snack, even if he doesn't eat a good dinner, and he never wakes through the night because he's hungry.  We eat dinner at 5 and he is in bed by 7.

  • We don't. Our bedtime routine goes: Dinner, brush teeth, bath, jammies, books, bed. Not enough time for a snack here. She does have a before nap snack some days.. It's usually some whole grain crackers or an apple or orange, maybe some cereal.

  • No snack here either.  Similar timing as the others as well (dinner 5-5:30, in bed by 7), so he's not hungry enough to need/ask for a snack.  Also sleeps through the night, so it's not an issue with that either.
  • Nope, no snack. If she's not interested she's probably  not hungry.

We eat dinner at 5:30ish, and go up to bed at 6:45, so no need for a snack.

This for us too. We eat at around 6 and our bedtime routine starts after that. DS is never hungry for a snack.

  • DD seems to be the opposite of most kids - she will barely eat anything all day and then chows down dinner at 5 and is still hungry until bedtime at 7. I usually offer her a stick of string cheese, yogurt, blueberries, or cooked peas (she loves them) about 30 minutes before bed-- basically, something with either fat, protein, or fiber to fill her up.

If she doesn't get a post-dinner snack, she often wakes up in the middle of the night telling me she's "hungy" and won't fall back asleep until she has something to eat then -- I hate letting her eat in the middle of the night, and the pre-bed snack seems to avoid that for her.

  • No snack at bedtime other than a nursing session. My daughter is 14 months old. We aren't big snackers here unless a meal is running late and we need a bit of something. This goes for my 5 yr old too.

  • We do dinner around 5:30 and then around 7:00 she has oatmeal mixed with a pouch of high vitamin C fruit (she had low iron for a while, it's just become habit now). After that is a bath, PediaSure before bed, brush teeth and bedtime at 8:30.

She's not a great eater, she eats the best in the evening. So if she wants it, i give it to her.

  • We do a snack about 30 min. before bed. We usually offer yogurt, fruit, or cheese.
  • We give milk and let her have an animal cracker or toddler cookie if she ate her dinner well and wants one. She almost always drinks quite a bit of milk before bed but doesn't always want her dessert. If your LO isn't interested in the snack I wouldn't worry about it - they eat when they are hungry!
