I've been cloth diapering for six years and have never had the following problem - my diapers are giving my girls horrible yeasty diaper rashes. I've tried to strip them twice now with bleach and blue Dawn and while I'm doing it I put sposies on the girls. When they are in the disposables the rashes clear up and as soon as I put a CD back on and they wet it, the rash reappears. It's as if there is yeast or something in the diapers that won't come out.
I never had problems with my CDs when the boys were in them. At that point I used prefolds with covers and BG 3.0s exclusively. When I had DD1 most of those diapers were no longer usable, so I bought some BG AIOs made with the organic cotton. I've been using those and some cheaper pocket diapers I bought when I had DD2. I'm wondering if it's the change in diapers that is making this an issue. Or could it be the inserts are getting old?
If anyone has advice I would appreciate. I bought a box of disposables and have been using them on the girls until I get this issue figured out. What should I wash them in? Do you think the diapers are ruined or something?
Re: Another CD Mama question
I think I haven't been allowing the rash to totally heal before trying the dipes again. I'm going to do another week in disposables and in the meantime follow the instructions you linked. I haven't tried TTO yet and think that maybe I also need to soak them in boiling hot water. Perhaps I'll just fill the bathtub with boiling water and soak them in there for a few hours.
I also stopped using vinegar in my rinse cycle because I ran out last month. I'm wondering if that has something to do with my inability to kill this yeast. It's so frustrating!! In all my years of doing this I've never wanted to quit CDing and just do the disposables, but I've been close while dealing with this!
I haven't had to deal with the yeast though so no advice. But I know that BG recommends using a 1/4 cup of bleach once a month. I know you don't normally use bleach but would that help really kill the yeast?
