January 2014 Moms

The hardest "no" ever!

I had my doc appt this afternoon. All is good, progressing nicely, still no complications. I've always been of the mind set of the least amount of medical intervention as possible, unless medically necessary for me and/or baby. Doc asked me today if I would like to talk about an induction next week if baby wasn't born by then 38/5) and I can't believe it, but I managed to tell her no. She said we could revisit the idea next week if still no baby. No...please don't tempt me...I might cave with impatience! I can't understand why she wants to medically intervene and it's kinda got me peeved. No point to this post, just proud that I didn't cave to getting LO here in a certain amount of time!

  • Did she give you any actual reason?

  • My horrible memories of pitocin will make it easy for me to say no should my OB offer. The most I'll agree to is a membrane strip unless induction becomes necessary.

  • Good for you for saying no! It is odd that she would randomly ask if you wanted to be induced without any specific reason. My doctor won't (and I think she can't) even schedule my medically necessary c-section prior to 39 weeks.

  • Good for you! I was so impatient for LO to get here before the new year, but now I feel more at peace with the waiting.

  • Nice job holding off. I know it can be tempting but your LO will let you know when it's time :)

  • Ahh good for you!! I am so ready to be done and to meet this little one but I hope they don't offer me an induction unless it's necessary. Definitely hard to say no!
  • My midwife mentioned natural induction... I'm all about the mom to be tea! I cannot go above 40 weeks. I just can't.

  • @silentsiren11, no reason given. This OBs office is big on medical intervention. My sis and SIL both had c sections for no other reason but they thought babies were big. Babies weren't big.
@happydoc, I feel the same way. I so bad wanted a nye baby and since i didn't get it, I'm a little more calm about the whole thing now. I just don't want her to ask me again, I hope I can still manage to say no next week!

  • I don't understand non-medically necessary inductions. At all. Some babies just need to cook a bit longer, and there's nothing wrong with that! Good for you for saying no.

@katags, because I've reached the point in my pregnancy where I am so completely done being pregnant.  The discomfort is a little much to take.  I'm glad you're not to that point yet
