Any of you co-sleeping moms ever leave LO overnight?

edited January 2014 in May 2013 Moms
Just wondering how it worked...and what happened.   Did LO sleep alone or with DH?  Did they sleep at all?  Any details would be appreciated.  Thanks so much.  I am also going to post this on the AP board.

  • @nonniedee that is so cool! Love it.

  • We cosleep but I haven't left her overnight yet. Sorry that's not much help. If I did leave her I would just want her to sleep in her cot (not bedshare as we do) because I would worry terribly that they might forget she was there.

  • I haven't spent a night away from LOs but I agree with @lolalipsy - I don't think I'd be comfortable with my husband bed-sharing with them without me there. He doesn't wake up as easily as I do when they stir, and now that they just started crawling, the first thing they do upon waking is head over to the bed rail and try to pull themselves up on it. I'd be scared my H wouldn't wake up as soon as they wake up and they'd fall off the bed, or that he'd roll over on them or something.

    He and the babies usually sleep a little later than me while I shower before work and I was just thinking this morning that I'm going to have to start waking him up when I get out of bed.

  • ^^  yes, I am definitely nervous about DH co-sleeping with LO.  DH has never done it and he isn't really comfortable with it either.  LO so far won't sleep in a crib though so we might be forced  to  sleep train before this trip.   I feel really bad about it but I am thinking if I bite the bullet and get LO to sleep in the crib without me before the trip then it will be less traumatic for him when I am away.  I hope that is the case any way. Poor little guy.

  • I can't even leave him to go downstairs.....sigh
  • @mslaurats, are you a SAHM? If not , where does he sleep for naps? I ask because I work and my mom stays at our house with V and E, and they sleep SO much differently for my mom than for me and my husband. If my husband or I are home, E insists on being rocked or snuggled to sleep, while V will only fall asleep in the Ergo. But for my mom, they'll go to sleep in their cribs if she pats their butts and/or holds their hands. My point is that maybe your husband will have more success than you think if your son knows you're not home?

  • I'm the same as @lolalipsy . I wish I had more to offer, but I can't figure out how to do an overnight yet either.

    @nonniedee that's superbness!

    @pumpkinandthepeanut,  I am a WAHM...LO still takes a lot of naps in the swings...we are still under the weight limit and he isn't pulling to stand yet so we are taking advantage of it while we can.  Otherwise he sleeps in the ergo, stroller, or he will take much shorter naps in the crib in the Merlin suit.
    If we don't force the whole crib issue for this trip, we might just have to do overnight in the swing.  It's not a permanent solution but I shouldn't have to travel like this for a while so hopefully he will have gotten more used to the crib by then.
    My MIL also is better than me at getting him to sleep so you definitely have a point about it being different when I am not there.
